The Gristle Wolf is a temporary mount in Crimson Desert and the largest, most dangerous wolf variant players can ride. With a massive 1,743 Health and 280 Attack, the Gristle Wolf is by far the toughest and hardest-hitting wolf-type mount available. It towers over the smaller Swift Wolf, Large Wolf, and Large White Wolf variants, and its raw combat stats rival those of bears and other elite predators in the game.

Like all predator mounts, the Gristle Wolf is classified as a Fleeting Companion. It cannot be registered at a stable, summoned on demand, or equipped with mount gear. Each ride is a one-time encounter that ends permanently when you dismount or when the wolf is killed.
The Gristle Wolf has the highest base stats of any wolf-type mount in Crimson Desert. Its stat spread is built for raw aggression and survivability:
The Gristle Wolf's 1,743 Health is extraordinary for a temporary mount, surpassing even the Black Bear's 1,500 HP. Its 280 Attack also makes it one of the hardest-hitting mounts in the entire game, second only to the Wyvern's 324 Attack among temporary mounts. With 60 Defense on top, the Gristle Wolf can absorb a substantial amount of punishment before going down.
The Gristle Wolf must be subdued through combat before it can be ridden. Because of its enormous health pool and high attack power, bringing down a Gristle Wolf is a serious fight that requires preparation.
Locate a Gristle Wolf in the wilderness. These oversized wolves tend to roam forested and mountainous regions, often accompanied by smaller wolf packs.
Engage the Gristle Wolf in combat. Dodge its lunging bite attacks and retaliating claw swipes while dealing sustained damage.
Continue fighting until the wolf's health drops low enough that it collapses and becomes stunned.
When the mount prompt appears (Square on PlayStation, X on Xbox), press it quickly to climb onto the wolf's back before it recovers.
Warning: The Gristle Wolf hits extremely hard at 280 Attack. Bring plenty of healing items and consider wearing your best defensive equipment before engaging one. Kiting the wolf and using ranged skills can help you whittle down its massive health bar more safely.
The Gristle Wolf is a temporary mount (Fleeting Companion). This means:
It cannot be registered at any stable or recalled through the mount menu.
It cannot be equipped with saddles, barding, champrons, or any other mount gear.
It does not gain experience, level up, or learn new skills.
Once you dismount, the Gristle Wolf becomes hostile immediately and will attack you.
If the wolf is killed during your ride, you are thrown off and must find another one.
While riding the Gristle Wolf, you gain access to its powerful attack moveset. The wolf can perform lunging bite attacks and sweeping claw strikes that deal heavy area-of-effect damage to nearby enemies. Your character can simultaneously use their own weapons and abilities from the saddle, creating a devastating dual-attack setup that can tear through groups of enemies quickly.
The Gristle Wolf's exceptional health pool means you can ride it into the thick of combat without worrying about it being killed quickly. This makes it an outstanding mobile combat platform for clearing enemy camps, fighting faction patrols, or dealing with world events.
Save your game before attempting to subdue a Gristle Wolf. The fight is long and punishing due to its 1,743 HP, and a failed attempt costs resources.
Use the Gristle Wolf's high attack to clear out enemy camps and strongholds before dismounting. Its 280 Attack makes short work of most regular enemies.
Plan your dismount carefully. The wolf turns hostile the instant you get off, so dismount in an open area away from other threats.
The Gristle Wolf is slower than horses but compensates with overwhelming combat power. Use it as a weapon, not a travel mount.
Riding a Gristle Wolf registers its entry in the Fleeting Companions section of the Knowledge Journal.
