Golden Apple

Added Grey Rock Dock village spawn method with collection techniques and expected yield rates

Golden Apple is a miscellaneous item in Crimson Desert. It is a strange fruit that is visible only to hedgehogs. The Golden Apple Tree cannot be seen with human eyes, so finding one requires watching the ground for hedgehogs rather than looking at trees. If you spot a glimmering light atop a hedgehog's back, follow it to discover the fruit.
In-game description: "A strange fruit visible only to hedgehogs. The Golden Apple Tree can't be seen with human eyes, so if you want to get a Golden Apple, you'll need to watch the ground as you move around, not the trees. If you see a glimmering light atop a hedgehog's back, do not lose sight of it; follow wherever it leads."
Golden Apples are used as an ingredient in one of the Gold Bar crafting recipes at a Witch NPC:
Golden Apples were long considered one of the rarest items in Crimson Desert, but the Gray Rock Dock spawn area (covered below) now allows consistent farming. The Brimstone/Mercury/Silver Ore recipe (3 Brimstone + 3 Mercury + 10 Silver Ore) is still an alternative if you prefer not to farm hedgehogs, but the Golden Apple recipe is now competitive with pickpocketing and other Gold Bar sources.
Look for hedgehogs while exploring the open world. When a hedgehog has a glimmering light on its back, follow it carefully without losing sight. The hedgehog will lead you to a Golden Apple Tree that is otherwise invisible. Golden Apples obtained this way are uncommon, making them a supplementary rather than primary ingredient for Gold Bar crafting.
The most reliable location for farming Golden Apples is Gray Rock Dock, a small riverside spot northwest of Demeniss along the river. For a long time the Golden Apple was considered one of the rarest items in the game, with players reporting hundreds of hours of play before finding a single one. Gray Rock Dock changed that by offering a fixed spawn area where multiple hedgehogs with Golden Apples appear and respawn within minutes, making this the first truly repeatable farm for the item.
The closest fast travel point sits southwest of the dock on the map. From that fast travel point, you can simply run toward the cliff edge, leap off, and use aerial Force Palms to glide the rest of the way down. Gray Rock Dock is within visible distance from the fast travel point, so you can also mark it on your map before you leap to keep the location framed on your screen during the descent.
The surrounding mountains contain a few crystal mines, so if you are already making the trip it is worth stocking up on crafting materials while you are in the area.
Once you reach Gray Rock Dock, head down the road to the first turn. The corner just past the bend is the main spawn point for Golden Apple hedgehogs. At least two hedgehogs can spawn in this small area at any given time, and occasionally two will appear at once, which requires quick shots before they scurry off.
The spawn point resets through a simple proximity trick. Run from the corner up the path, touch or skim past a large rock a short distance away, then run straight back. This short loop counts as enough distance traveled to force the local wildlife to respawn. You do not need to fast travel, rest at a fire, or walk all the way across the map. Just bounce between the rock and the corner a few times and a new hedgehog will appear.
The respawn pool is shared with other small animals. Expect to see porcupines, weasels, and moles appear alongside the hedgehogs. If a loop produces only a weasel or a porcupine, run back to the rock and try again. It usually only takes one or two resets before a Golden Apple hedgehog shows up. You can recognize the target instantly because it is the only animal in the pool that has a shining Golden Apple on its back.
Testing at this spot shows that the 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in-game time window gives the best spawn rates. Hedgehogs with Golden Apples do not appear to spawn at night. Roughly 40 minutes of respawning during nighttime hours produced zero Golden Apple hedgehogs in testing, while daytime runs consistently produced drops. Earlier morning hours (around 9 to 10 AM) still work, but late afternoon is noticeably better, so advance the in-game clock toward evening if you want to maximize throughput.
The easiest way to separate a hedgehog from its Golden Apple is to shoot it with a bow. There is very little aim assist on targets this small, so bring a bow you are comfortable with. If you struggle to land arrows on a moving hedgehog, walk up to it, pick it up, then drop it. A dropped hedgehog stays still for a couple of seconds, giving you a clean window to line up the shot. Attempting to carry a hedgehog away from the spawn area is a waste of time and does not improve your odds, so just drop it on the spot.
If your bow aim is sharp, you can also shoot the Golden Apple off the hedgehog's back without harming the animal itself. The apple knocks loose and the hedgehog wanders away unharmed. This is purely optional and does not affect the drop, so most players default to shooting the hedgehog directly.
Once the Golden Apple is on the ground, picking it up counts as theft. The prompt only appears while you are wearing a Mask, so make sure a mask is equipped before you engage the hedgehog. Without one, the steal prompt does not appear and the apple cannot be collected.
After stealing the apple, immediately sprint out of the red circle on your minimap. The red circle marks the area where the theft can still generate a bounty. As long as you exit the circle quickly, there are no consequences, even if nearby NPCs saw you steal it. Do not waste time fighting guards or trying to lose line of sight. Just get outside the red ring and the theft resolves cleanly with no wanted level and no silver penalty.
Each Golden Apple sells directly to vendors for roughly 100 silver. The more profitable option is to craft it into a Gold Bar at any Witch using the alchemy recipe: 1 Golden Apple plus 3 Gold Ore produces 1 Gold Bar. Gold Bars sell for 500 silver at the bank, so a single Golden Apple effectively multiplies into roughly five times its raw sale value once crafted (assuming you already have Gold Ore stockpiled).
Gold Ore itself is easy to accumulate. The Anvil Hill Cave near Demeniss contains dense clusters of gold nodes inside a hidden chamber. Look for the suspicious wall at the bottom of a small depression, break it with a Force Punch, and mine every full-gold node (not the half-stone, half-gold variants) inside. Other productive gold spots include Silver Wolf Cave in Pailune, Mist Veil Forest Cave on the island south of Demeniss, the Crimson Desert cave near the giant city gate, the desert lake cave north of the Crimson Desert, and the San Pete Gold Mine northeast of Demeniss. A leveled mining knuckle drill combined with gathering-boost Abyss Gears will pull enough ore from one cave run to keep the Gold Bar recipe fed for hours.
Testing at Gray Rock Dock during the 4 to 7 PM window produced roughly 7 Golden Apples in 10 minutes of active farming. This puts the method on par with or slightly ahead of the classic pickpocket Gold Bar farm, because there is no fast travel loop involved and the respawn trick keeps you stationary. Do remember that Gold Bars are worth the full 500 silver only when exchanged at a bank, so take your crafted bars there rather than selling to general vendors.
One caution: some players have reported Gold Bars disappearing from bank deposits and the bank balance appearing to cap out. Be careful when investing large stacks of Gold Bars in the bank until this behavior is confirmed fixed, as you could lose silver if the deposit glitches.

An efficient farming method exists at the Grey Rock Dock village. After liberating the area from hostile forces, head to the house at the start of the village. Critters including rats, raccoons, and golden hedgehogs with Golden Apples on their backs will literally spawn from the vegetation and steps below the house without needing to reset the area or travel to a respawn loop.
To maximize spawns, move out of the hedgehog's line of sight briefly by walking down the street from the house (not too far, just enough to break visual contact), then return slowly to check if anything has appeared. More often than not, a hedgehog will eventually show up. Going up the street and returning also triggers spawns from the previous point. The key is patience and short movements rather than long reset runs.
There are several ways to collect a Golden Apple from a hedgehog at this location:
Bow and arrow: shoot the hedgehog or knock the apple off its back from a distance.
Steal from back: approach carefully and use the steal prompt while wearing a Mask.
Shoot to drop: a well-placed shot makes the hedgehog drop the apple, which can then be picked up.
In testing, roughly 2 in-game hours of farming at Grey Rock Dock (for example, 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM) produced 8 to 9 Golden Apples. Since each apple can be refined with 3 Gold Ore into 1 Gold Bar at any Witch NPC, this method can accumulate the equivalent of 30 or more Gold Bars over a few in-game days. The spawns work consistently across multiple in-game days, making Grey Rock Dock one of the most reliable Golden Apple farming spots available. Combined with the Gray Rock Dock road spawn method described above, players have two complementary strategies for stacking Golden Apples efficiently.
