Add detailed puzzle mechanics from video guide (rotating cage, wall lift, Cuckoo Pot, final ascent)
The Ether Rest is an Abyss puzzle located in the Sleet Isles. It is the first puzzle in the frost chain, leading to Frostbitten Paradise and the Path of Trials. The puzzle involves rotating walls, hidden dials, reactor cubes, and wind gusts. It tests your ability to use multiple Abyss skills in sequence.
Sleet Isles of the Abyss. Accessible after completing the Spire of Ringing Truth challenge. Enter the Abyss through the Spire, then use the wind turbines and your wings to fly upward into the main puzzle room.
Skill | Usage in This Puzzle |
|---|---|
Operate yellow dials, move the reactor cube, rotate room sections | |
Reveal hidden mechanisms in walls, lift objects onto platforms | |
Activate the final Abyss Nexus to complete the puzzle |
Head to the center island and locate the caged pillar. Position yourself behind the central pillar (face south) and look upward to find a yellow dial. Use Axiom Force (L3) on the dial and rotate it counter-clockwise twice using the D-Pad. This unlocks a door and reveals a wind turbine.
Use the wind turbine to glide upward to the next chamber. On this floor, search the walls for a hidden section.
Use Nature's Grasp on the wall to reveal a hidden yellow dial. Then use Axiom Force on the newly exposed dial to open the passage to the next room.
Find the opening above and fly up using the vent gusts. In the upper area, locate the floating reactor cube.
Use Axiom Force to pick up the reactor cube. Return it to the room at the top of the rotating pillar. When carrying the cube, be careful not to fly too high or you may drop it.
Climb to the top of the pillar using the spiral wires that wrap around it. At the top, use the wind gust to fly over to the next island.
On the final island, use Force Palm on the center of the wall to activate the Abyss Nexus and complete the puzzle.
The core mechanic of Ether Rest involves walls and floors that rotate when you interact with dials. When you use Axiom Force on a dial, the layers of the room spin until the interior and exterior openings align. Listen for a clicking sound that indicates the walls have locked into the correct position. If the holes do not line up after one rotation, keep spinning the dial until you hear the lock.
At the center of the first room is a cage with an opening. Grapple onto the glowing button above to take control of the cage. Use the D-pad to rotate the cage until the opening lines up with the button below. Once aligned, drop inside and use the wind turbine to launch upward to the next chamber.
In the upper chamber, land on the platform below and find a wall with a hole that you can lift using Nature's Grasp. Lift the wall and wait for the magic to end. As it lowers slightly, a hidden button is revealed inside the hole. Grapple onto it to take control of the room's rotation. Use the D-pad to rotate left until you see the exit opening, then release.
The building above rotates continuously. As you ride the wind turbines upward, look for a floating electrical power core (a block). You need to bring this core to the top room. The easiest method is to grab it and seal it in your Cuckoo Pot (press Triangle after grabbing). At the top, open the Cuckoo Pot, drop the core, grab it with the Axiom grapple, and place it on the unactivated power statue. This powers on a fan above you.
After placing the power core, follow the wires running up the walls to climb higher. At the top, jump into the air, do some force punches for height, then glide. The fan you just activated will launch you to the exit platform where you claim the reward for the first sky island.
The yellow dials are easy to miss. Look above and behind structures for them, not just at eye level.
When carrying the reactor cube with Axiom Force, fly carefully. If you gain too much altitude, the cube drops and you have to retrieve it.
Use Focus (press both analog sticks) to regenerate Spirit between skill uses if you run low.
The Nature's Grasp wall reveal is the step most players get stuck on. If you feel lost, try using Nature's Grasp on every suspicious-looking wall surface.
After completing Ether Rest, follow the wind vents forward to reach the Frostbitten Paradise puzzle.
