Expanded with Civilian Disguise effect details, disguise set info, usage scenarios, refinement section, and acquisition details

The Disguise Cloak is a cloth cloak in Crimson Desert. It is designed to help the wearer blend in among common townsfolk, making it a practical choice for stealth-oriented gameplay and crime-related activities. The cloak's Civilian Disguise special effect allows Kliff to move through certain areas without drawing the attention of guards or patrols.
Sold at the Back Alley Shop for 20.88 Silver, this cloak is one of the most accessible disguise items in the game. At 3 Defense with Ice Resistance Lv.3, it also provides solid protection for a cloth cloak. The Disguise Cloak is part of a two-piece civilian disguise set alongside the Camouflage Outfit (body armor), and equipping both items together strengthens the disguise effect.

"A common cloak that blends into the environment. It is an utterly ordinary piece of equipment that can be found in any city alleyway across Pywel."
The Disguise Cloak can be purchased from the Back Alley Shop, a shady vendor located southeast of the Church of Hernand in the Hernand region. Follow the main road east out of Hernand, past the large model castle on the left side. Turn left down the road and follow the track to reach the vendor. The shop is situated near Muckroot Ranch.
The shop is operated by a vendor named Grimrak, who also sells Masks (for roughly 10 copper), the Camouflage Outfit (23.74 Silver), ammunition, food supplies, keys, and crafting blueprints. This is also the vendor where stolen livestock and goods can be sold.
The Disguise Cloak cannot be crafted. It is a vendor-only item.
The Civilian Disguise is a special effect that reduces the likelihood of being recognized by guards and NPCs when in restricted or hostile areas. This is particularly useful during stealth-oriented quests in the main story where Kliff needs to infiltrate towns or enemy-held settlements.
The Disguise Cloak provides the Civilian Disguise modifier on its own, but combining it with the Camouflage Outfit (body armor, also sold at the Back Alley Shop for 23.74 Silver) creates a stronger two-piece disguise set. When both pieces are equipped, the disguise effect is more effective and enemies take longer to see through it. Equipping only one piece still provides some benefit, but the effect is weaker.
The Civilian Disguise does not make Kliff completely invisible or immune to detection. If you commit a crime while wearing the disguise, guards can still detect you. The disguise primarily helps when moving through areas where you would normally be questioned or attacked on sight.
The following table shows the two pieces that form the civilian disguise set:
Item | Slot | DEF | Resistance | Special Effect | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Cloak (Shoulder) | 3 | Ice Res Lv.3 | Civilian Disguise | 20.88 Silver | |
Body Armor | 7 | Lightning Res Lv.1 | Civilian Disguise | 23.74 Silver |
Several quests in the main story require Kliff to enter areas undetected. Equipping the Disguise Cloak (or the full two-piece set) before entering these areas reduces the chance of being immediately spotted. This is especially helpful during missions that involve infiltrating Hernand City locations or faction-controlled zones.
If Kliff has an active bounty from committing crimes such as stealing or attacking NPCs, wearing the Disguise Cloak can help when traveling through towns. Guards who would normally recognize a wanted fugitive are less likely to approach while the disguise is active. However, this is not a guarantee, and players with high bounties should still exercise caution. Bounties can be cleared at Confessionals by purchasing a Writ of Absolution.
To steal items in Crimson Desert, you need a Mask equipped. The Disguise Cloak complements the Mask by reducing the chances of bystanders recognizing Kliff during or after a theft. When stealing, a red detection zone appears around Kliff. If spotted within this zone, a bounty (typically 5 copper for theft) is applied. The Disguise Cloak does not eliminate the -5 Contribution penalty per theft, which is unavoidable regardless of what you wear.
The following table compares the Disguise Cloak with other cloth cloaks that provide Ice Resistance:
Cloak | DEF | Resistance | Special | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
3 | Ice Res Lv.3 | Civilian Disguise | 20.88 Silver | |
3 | Ice Res Lv.3 | None | 19 Contribution | |
3 | Ice Res Lv.3 | None | 22.40 Silver |
Among these three cloaks, the Disguise Cloak is the only one with a special effect. All three share identical base Defense and Ice Resistance values. The Disguise Cloak is also the cheapest option when paying with Silver, making it a strong buy for players who want both decent stats and stealth utility.
The Disguise Cloak can be refined up to 10 levels at a Blacksmith. Each refinement level increases the cloak's base Defense stat. Since the Disguise Cloak starts at 3 Defense, full refinement raises it considerably, making it a viable cloak choice well into the mid-game. Refinement requires Silver and crafting materials, with costs increasing at higher levels.
The Disguise Cloak and Camouflage Outfit are both sold at the same Back Alley Shop, so you can pick up the full disguise set in a single trip.
The Back Alley Shop is also where you can buy Masks for about 10 copper, which are required for stealing. Consider buying a Mask at the same time as the cloak.
If you are planning a crime spree, equip both the Disguise Cloak and the Camouflage Outfit for the best chance of avoiding detection.
The Civilian Disguise effect is not a toggle. It is always active as long as the cloak is equipped. You do not need to activate it manually.
Even with a full disguise set, faction-specific checkpoints and story-scripted detection events will still recognize Kliff. The disguise primarily helps in open-world situations.
Since the Disguise Cloak provides Ice Resistance Lv.3, it is also a practical choice for cold-weather areas like northern Pywel, even if you do not need the stealth functionality.
