New article: Altar of Solitude puzzle solution guide with full step-by-step walkthrough and rewards
The Altar of Solitude is the sixth Abyss challenge along the Path of Providence in Crimson Desert. This puzzle requires you to manipulate flat chip-like blocks (sometimes called CPUs or nodes) and a powered cube across a chamber with a floor-flipping mechanism. You will need both Axiom Force and Force Palm to complete it. The reward for solving the puzzle is an Abyss Artifact, with an optional hidden chest containing a Faded Abyss Fragment and Haste 2 Abyss Gear.
The Altar of Solitude is accessed via the Skybridge in the Courtyard of Precision. To reach it, you must complete the previous Abyss challenges in sequence. The full Path of Providence progression is:
Altar of Solitude (you are here)
After completing the Courtyard of Precision, activate the forcefield triangle mechanism using Axiom Force and find the correct angle with the D-Pad. This creates a bridge. Cross it quickly, because the platforms crumble underfoot. Step onto the circular platform at the far end to be transported to the Altar of Solitude.

The chamber contains a floating blue energy cube, a stone pedestal that triggers a floor-flip mechanism, and four flat chip-like blocks that must be placed into square sockets on the two large panels at either side of the room. Two blocks start near the panels on the upper floor, while the other two are hidden in the underground area beneath the flipping floor section.
Grab the floating blue cube. Use Axiom Force to pick up the blue energy cube hovering near the entrance. Place it on the square stone pedestal near the fast travel save point. This powers the panels but do not place it on the floor-flip pedestal yet.
Place the first flat block. On the upper-left (south) side of the room, there is a flat block resting near one of the large panels. Use Axiom Force to grab it and slide it into one of the empty square sockets on the right-side panel. Once it is lined up, use Force Palm aimed downward to lock the block into the socket.
Move the existing left-side block. Pull the block that is already seated in the left panel's socket. Carry it over to the right side and place it in the second empty socket on the right panel. Lock it in with Force Palm.
Trigger the floor flip. Move the blue energy cube from the save-point pedestal to the floor-flip pedestal (the second stone cube platform). The floor section between the panels will begin to rotate slowly. As it flips, slip through the gap to drop into the underground area below.
Navigate the underground corridors. Once below, proceed deeper into the narrow corridors. The third flat block is on the far side of this underground section. Use Axiom Force to grab it.
Rotate and thread the block through the gap. The corridors have narrow wall gaps that the block must pass through. Use the directional pad (D-Pad) to rotate the block so it fits through each opening. This can be tricky because visibility is low underground. Move the block to the edge, flip it onto its horizontal side, and pull it through the gap in the wall to the other side.
Use the teleporter. After getting the third block through, use the Abyss teleporter to return to the surface level.
Extract the fourth block. The fourth flat block can be pulled from a hole on the right side of the chamber. You do not need to go back underground to grab it. Use Axiom Force to reach down and extract it.
Place the third block. Carry the third block to the central area and place it on the central square slot. Use Force Palm aimed downward to lock it into position.
Move all blocks to the side panels. The key to completing the puzzle is that all four flat blocks must be placed into the sockets on the side panels, leaving the middle area empty. Two blocks go on each side. If you placed blocks in the center earlier, remove them and redistribute so there are exactly two per panel.
Lock each block into its socket. When pulling blocks into their final positions, use the analog stick rather than the pull button. Rotate the stick until you feel the vibration trigger and the piece snaps into place. This confirms the block is properly seated.
Power up the cube. Make sure the blue energy cube is still sitting on the powered pedestal. With all four blocks locked in and the cube active, a cutscene plays showing the Altar of Solitude activating. A circular gear mechanism rises from the ground.
Activate the gear. Walk over to the exposed gear and perform a Downward Palm Strike on it. This completes the Altar of Solitude puzzle.
Completing the Altar of Solitude grants one Abyss Artifact. Abyss Artifacts are key collectibles used to strengthen your character. For a full list of locations, see All Abyss Artifact Locations.
Before leaving the Altar of Solitude, check the back-right corner of the chamber. A chest sits behind a set of laser barriers. Use nearby blocks to interrupt the laser beams and clear a path to the chest. Inside you will find a Faded Abyss Fragment and a Haste 2 piece of Abyss Gear. The Faded Abyss Fragment is a crafting material used at the Abyss Artifact Fabricator, so it is well worth picking up.
Ability | Usage in This Puzzle |
|---|---|
Axiom Force | Grabbing and carrying the blue cube, flat blocks, and threading blocks through narrow gaps |
Force Palm | Locking flat blocks into their square sockets by striking downward |
Downward Palm Strike | Activating the final gear mechanism to complete the puzzle |
If you miss the floor flip, move the blue cube off and back onto the pedestal to trigger it again. The mechanism can be repeated as many times as you need.
When threading blocks through underground wall gaps, rotate the block with the D-Pad before pulling it through. The block must be in the correct orientation or it will not fit.
All four flat blocks belong on the side panels. If a block is sitting in the center slot, the puzzle will not complete. Redistribute so the middle remains empty.
Use the analog stick rotation method when seating blocks into their final sockets. Wait for the controller vibration to confirm the block has locked. The pull button alone may not seat the block properly.
Do not forget the hidden chest behind the lasers. The Faded Abyss Fragment and Haste 2 gear are easy to miss if you rush to the exit after completing the main puzzle.
The puzzle is not timed. Take your time with each step, especially underground where visibility is limited.
The Altar of Solitude is part of the Path of Providence chain. The previous challenge is the Courtyard of Precision, and the next challenge is the Ice Cradle. For a complete overview of all Abyss puzzles in Crimson Desert, see Abyss Island Puzzle Solutions.
