The Collective is the Resonant of The Park, a Mold-infested zone of Manhattan in Control Resonant. It is a heaped mass of Mold that forms and reforms scowling faces, anchored to its arena by tentacles running into the surrounding walls, and it waits beneath the park behind a Mold Gate. The Park is an optional zone that the story never requires, and the Collective is optional with it.

Reaching the Collective
The Park is reached through a checkpoint in the north-east of Central and can be visited any time after Central opens up. The hunt starts at a hole in the middle of the park, flagged on the map for new Mold strains, where Dylan inspects and eats a sample of Mold. He then has to eat more samples found around the zone, which guides place in a pizzeria, a minimart and a gym, each guarded by enemies. With those eaten, the Mold Gate back at the hole opens onto the path to the boss.
Remedy leaned into the oddity in one of its own promotional shorts before launch, which asked: "Would you eat the Mold?"
The Fight
The Collective cannot be hurt at first. Its tentacles anchor it to the walls of the arena, and while they hold, the mass takes no damage. The fight is a traversal problem: Dylan shifts gravity to walk the walls and reach the anchors, cutting them down while the Collective throws Mold projectiles and summons lesser enemies to break his route. Once the tentacles are gone, weak points open on the body, and those have to be destroyed in turn.

It shows how varied the boss class is. Where the Artist, the Dancer and the Deserter are fought head-on, the Collective is a static, environmental encounter. Remedy's design team said before release that no two Resonant fights are meant to resemble each other and that each is tuned to test a different skill.
Preparation
The Mold is weak to fire, and burning also speeds up Falter buildup, so Ignite, one of the two abilities offered by the Deserter in Central, is a useful pick before this fight. Mold attacks build up the Infected status.
Rewards
Defeating the Collective offers a choice of two Infected-themed abilities. The pick is made in The Gap after the fight and can be changed later at the Mural there with a Reset Item. Guides also list a Reset Item and an artifact among the quest's rewards.
Ability | Effect |
|---|---|
Spore Burst | Fires a rapid burst of projectiles that builds the Infected status. |
Growth | Summons a Mold turret that fires Infected projectiles at nearby enemies. |
First Appearance
The Collective was first shown in the playable build at gamescom in August 2026, whose demo slice sent Dylan through the mould-smothered Park toward it. The fight shown there, with its wall-anchored tentacles and weak points that open only once they are cut, matches the encounter in the released game.
