Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced introduces three new recruitable officers for the Jackdaw. Unlike the original game's crew mechanics, each officer in Resynced is a named character with their own questline. Players earn each officer by completing that questline and building sufficient trust, rather than purchasing upgrades.
Officer | Notable Ability | Recruitment Method |
|---|---|---|
Lucy Baldwin | Brace command halves damage taken when timed on contact | Complete Lucy's dedicated questline and build her trust |
Tobias "Deadman" Smith | A devastating double shot from broadside weapons | Complete Tobias's dedicated questline and build his trust |
The Padre | Ram dash powers a forward charge into enemy ships for heavy hull damage | Complete The Padre's dedicated questline and build his trust |
Each officer requires the player to complete a dedicated questline before they can join the Jackdaw. The questlines are built around the concept of earning trust: the officer needs to see that Edward is worth sailing with. The specific tasks and story beats within each questline had not been detailed ahead of the game's release, but the recruitment structure is confirmed to apply to all three.
Once recruited, each officer brings something distinct to the ship. Tobias "Deadman" Smith's double broadside shot doubles the cannonballs fired in a single salvo, raising the Jackdaw's burst damage on naval engagements. Lucy Baldwin's Brace command, triggered at the right moment, halves the damage the Jackdaw takes when an enemy strike connects, turning a clean parry of a ramming attack into a survivable trade. The Padre's Ram Dash sends the Jackdaw forward at speed to crack open enemy hulls, opening the kind of weakpoints that follow-up cannon fire can then exploit.
Officer | Background | Combat Role |
|---|---|---|
Lucy Baldwin | A spunky shipwright held in prison for murder; freed during a boarding sequence and joins the crew after Edward intervenes. | Defensive support. Brace halves incoming hull damage on contact. |
Tobias "Deadman" Smith | A one-eyed master gunner whose firing discipline gives the Jackdaw's broadsides a devastating second pass. | Offensive support. Broadside cannons fire twice as many cannonballs in a salvo. |
The Padre | An older man called The Padre, a master at arms who reshapes how the Jackdaw closes on its targets. | Aggressive support. Ram Dash sends the Jackdaw forward at speed for heavy hull damage. |
