Edward Kenway is the protagonist of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. A Welsh privateer operating in the Caribbean during the early eighteenth century, Edward begins the story as a self-interested mercenary motivated more by wealth and adventure than ideology. Over the course of the game his encounters with the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order reshape his values, and he earns the skills and convictions of a true Assassin.
Voice Actor
Matt Ryan, who voiced Edward in the 2013 original, returns to the role in Resynced. Ryan recorded entirely new lines to match the rebuilt performance and the new scenes written for the remake.
Story Arc
The core arc from the original is preserved in Resynced: Edward's transformation from a privateer fighting for personal gain into a man who genuinely understands and embraces the Assassin creed. His conflict with the Templars, his relationships with historical pirates, and his time commanding the Jackdaw remain central to the experience.
Resynced expands on several relationships. Historical figures Blackbeard, Stede Bonnet, Anne Bonny, and Charles Vane all receive expanded storylines compared to the original. The creative team worked to deepen these partnerships and give them more narrative weight.
New and Amended Scenes
Original lead writer Darby McDevitt returned to write new material specifically for Resynced. This includes two fully new story scenes and one amended scene, for a total of three scenes that did not exist or appeared in a different form in the 2013 game. One of the new scenes features Edward's wife Caroline, adding dimension to that relationship which was largely conveyed through backstory in the original.
