Goddess Nui, originally Eanna Nimush, is the Goddess of the Hereafter (also called the Goddess of Death) and the most commonly worshipped deity in Erenor. She was a mortal woman who ascended to godhood through the Library Expedition and later sacrificed her power to save survivors from Auroria's destruction. The western continent of Nuia is named in her honor.
Mortal life
Eanna Nimush was the daughter of Delphinad's former Governor. She was described as kind-hearted and selfless, qualities that would define her divine role. As a member of the Library Expedition, Eanna traveled to the Garden at the edge of the world to find Thiol, the creator goddess.
Ascension
When the expedition found Thiol in the Garden, Eanna accepted a soul fragment from the dying creator. She received the duty of carrying the soul of Nuil, the original goddess of the Underworld. Through this spiritual union, Eanna became Nui, transforming from mortal to divine entity. The Occultism skillset in the game's class system is attributed to Nui's domain.
The sacrifice
When Gene Evernight, now embodying Kyrios, caused catastrophic destruction and Auroria began to collapse, Nui used her power to open the first Hereafter gate. This allowed survivors to escape to the new continents, but the act expended all of her divine power. The refugees who passed through her gate became the Nuians, and they named their new continent after the goddess who saved them.
The sealing
After the catastrophe, Nui sealed herself with Kyrios in the Hereafter, an alternate dimension, because she is the only being capable of keeping him contained. The location where she sealed Kyrios's body and soul is known as Nuimari. Her hold on the God of Destruction grows weaker over time, creating the long-term threat that Kyrios may eventually break free.
Cultural significance
Nui is not just a distant deity but an active presence in the faith of the Nuians. Her sacrifice gave the Nuians their motto, "We fear no death," because death means passage to Nui's domain. She governs the afterlife, and for the faithful, death is not an ending but a reunion with their savior. Gateways between the world and the Hereafter open unpredictably, reminding the living that the barrier between Nui's domain and the mortal world is thinner than anyone would like.
