Supernatural anomalies are the paranormal events caused by Chaos in Nova City. They are the primary threats that the A.C.D. investigates and responds to. In gameplay, they appear to function as both story missions and open-world encounters.
Anomalies range from minor disturbances (legged toilets, objects behaving strangely) to city-wide catastrophes (the meteor disaster connected to Dila). The TGS 2025 demo showed anomalies including mechs climbing buildings and sudden gang confrontations triggered by Chaos.
Random encounters appear on the map marked by red and blue indicators. Some anomalies are scripted story events; others appear dynamically as you explore. Scenarios shown in previews include gang confrontations, hostage rescues, superhero recruitment screenings, secret meeting infiltrations, and chasing a person in a hotdog suit.
The A.C.D. team responds to anomalies through investigation, containment, and combat. Each character contributes differently based on their job and abilities.
Category | Examples From Current Materials | Player Response |
|---|---|---|
Surreal objects | Legged toilets in traffic, sentient props in storefronts | Combat or scripted interaction |
Hostile constructs | Mechs climbing skyscrapers, large urban-scale threats | Team combat with traversal-assisted positioning |
Civilian crises | Hostage situations, gang confrontations triggered by Chaos | Investigation and combat |
Social oddities | Superhero recruitment screenings, secret-meeting infiltrations, hotdog-suit pursuits | Mostly scripted scenes with light combat |
City-wide events | The meteor incident connected to Dila's backstory | Large story arcs rather than ad-hoc encounters |
Anomalies surface in two patterns: scripted story missions tied to character arcs, and dynamic open-world encounters that pop up as the player explores. The map UI in current footage uses red and blue indicators to mark anomalies; the colour split appears to distinguish active threats from investigation leads, though that distinction is not yet detailed in primary materials.
The A.C.D. (Anti-Chaos Directorate) is the in-world body responsible for anomaly response. Each Agent contributes a different angle: hacking, courier work, surveillance, frontline combat. The Yeet Squad is the rapid-response sub-unit led by Taffy.
