May 12, 2026 at 10:26 AM
Initial version (2026-05-12)
Rana Lingua Magna is the boss of the Trial of Aether, the first elemental Trial available in Alabaster Dawn. It is a large frog-class Nuemera infused with Aether energy. Defeating Rana Lingua Magna grants the Aether Aspect (granted by Libra at the end of the fight) and the Bramble Quake and Leaf Blades Divine Arts. It is the first major-tier boss in the Early Access launch build.

Related to | Rana (smaller frog-class enemy; distinct from this boss) |
Rana Lingua Magna shares its species root with the smaller Rana enemy that appears in earlier areas, but the two are mechanically distinct. The standard Rana is a low-tier frog Nuemera with a tongue-lash attack; Rana Lingua Magna is the trial boss, several times larger, with an attack pattern built around the elongated tongue (lingua magna) and Aether-charged frog hops.
Tongue Whip: long-range tongue lash that telegraphs by Rana Lingua Magna opening its mouth and rearing back. Parryable on the final flick. Punishes mid-range positioning.
Aether Hop: Rana Lingua Magna leaps high and lands with an Aether shockwave. Dodge through the shadow on the ground to avoid the shockwave radius.
Tongue Tether: at low HP, Rana Lingua Magna can grab Juno with the tongue and pull her in. Break free with rapid attack inputs or parry the wind-up to cancel the grab.
Aether Croak: cone-shaped Aether breath that staggers and inflicts a small Aether-coded burn. Dodge sideways, not backward.
Build break-meter pressure with parries on the Tongue Whip wind-up. Each parry contributes a large chunk of meter, and the staggered Rana Lingua Magna is wide-open to combos.
Lead with Bogha Solas or Claio Solas for Physis damage. Rana Lingua Magna is Aether-aligned and resists same-element pressure, so use Physis Divine Arts during the stagger window for the cleanest damage.
Stock healing bulbs before entering the arena. The Trial of Aether's lead-up corridors do not refill supplies between the last checkpoint and the boss room.
Save Divine Charges for the stagger. Bramble Quake and Leaf Blades both auto-equip in the Trial's second room, but their first real test is this fight; using them outside the stagger window will probably miss.
Stay close to the arena center. Rana Lingua Magna's hop landings are easier to read when you have room on all sides to roll.
Defeating Rana Lingua Magna triggers a cutscene with Libra in which Juno is granted the Aether Aspect. Both shipped Divine Arts are auto-equipped: Bramble Quake (Physis Burst Melee) and Leaf Blades (Physis Burst Ranged). The arena reopens and Juno can return to Lyhamn or proceed to the next story step in Koro Valley.
