Hidden Cubes
October 6, 2026 at 11:53 PM
Initial version (2026-10-06)
Hidden Cubes are treasure containers tucked away across AION 2's open world. They are not marked like quest objectives: players find them clinging to cliff faces, wedged into ledges and hidden in high places, and open them on the spot. The global client uses the names Hidden Cube and Key: Hidden Cube, and the global Daeva Pass has a mission to open a Hidden Cube.
Cube | How it opens | Since |
|---|---|---|
Hidden Cube | Opened by interacting with it | Launch |
Key-only Hidden Cube | Can only be opened with a Key: Hidden Cube, which pays the cube's key rewards (the Open with Key rewards in NCsoft's notes) | December 10, 2025 (Korean service) |
NCsoft's notes describe the key rewards as a separate Open with Key reward set, and player guides rank the key among the most valuable Duty Quests rewards for that reason. Since December 24, 2025 wings from Hidden Cubes reached through Spacetime Rifts match the opener's faction.
Source | Details |
|---|---|
Duty quests | Key: Hidden Cube is one of the rotating rewards on Duty Missions and Duty Scrolls; its chance was lowered on March 25, 2026 on the Korean service. |
Monolith resonance | Player-compiled reward lists put Key: Hidden Cube among the level rewards of the home-territory Monoliths; see Monoliths and Empyrean Traces. |
Shop (global) | 50 Quna for one Key: Hidden Cube (Bound), up to 3 times per character per day, according to NCsoft's global product notice of September 30, 2026. |
Mileage shop (global) | 2,000 Mileage for one Key: Hidden Cube (Bound), in the same notice. |
Packs and events | The global AION 2 Season 1 Starter pack ($19.99) includes 10 keys. Korean attendance events and packages have also handed out keys. |
NCsoft does not publish a full drop table for Hidden Cubes, but the Korean update notes record each change to their rewards:
Date (Korean service) | Change |
|---|---|
December 10, 2025 | Key-only Hidden Cubes added across Atreia. For Christmas, every Hidden Cube took on a gift-box appearance with no change in function. |
December 17, 2025 | Opening key-only cubes now counts toward the achievements Who Brought This Box? and Opening Boxes with Professional Tools; the stack size of keys was raised. |
January 14, 2026 | A respawn delay was added to Hidden Cubes, and key-only cubes appear more often. |
March 25, 2026 | Key rewards gained Unstable Stigma Shards; Soul Codex and pet item quantities rose sharply; Resurrection Spiritstone and Soul Codex: Reset chances rose. |
May 13, 2026 | Seed of Insight (간파의 씨앗; provisional English) added to the key rewards. |
July 1, 2026 | Reward table reworked for Chapter 1: new appearances, new wings, Intermediate and Superior Manastones and Soulstones, the Brilliant Gathering Material Selection Bundle and the Lucky Kina Box; higher chances and quantities for Resurrection Spiritstones, Soul Codexes, Soul Codex: Reset, Mana Potions, Life Crystals, Theostones and scrolls. |
August 12, 2026 | Slightly more Silentium from Hidden Cubes. |
October 7, 2026 | Soul Crystals from a key opening raised from 100 to 1,000, with the difference paid retroactively for keys used during Chapter 1. The cubes' holiday event appearance was removed. |
Hidden Cubes respawn (a respawn delay was added on January 14, 2026). Player guides suggest that a loop around the edges of a map at a quiet hour turns up enough cubes to use a stock of keys quickly, and still rank keys first among duty rewards.
The Transparent Map overlay added on July 22, 2026 marks Empyrean Traces among other things, but Hidden Cubes are not among the marker types NCsoft listed for it.
On the global service keys can be bought for Quna or Mileage, but the daily limit applies per character.
Duty Quests for the main key source. Monoliths and Empyrean Traces for the other collectible layer. World and Regions for the territories.
