The Sentinel is the Protectorate anti heavy infantry unit, Tier 1.5 ranged infantry carrying the HR-7 Rail Cannon at 13 range. It doubles its damage against Heavy armour, which makes it the faction's cheapest answer to enemy tanks and walkers long before the War Foundry is up. Figures below describe build ZS.c36778 of 11 September 2026 and move with the weekly patch cadence.

Role
Thirty damage on a 2.6 second cooldown is slow, deliberate fire: 12 damage per second in the open, 24 against Heavy armour, and 48 once Heavy Rockets is researched. The Sentinel is priced and paced as a siege weapon carried by an infantryman, and it is used the same way, sitting behind a Bastion line and firing at whatever is too armoured for the rest of the army to hurt.
Range is the other half of the unit. Thirteen is already further than most ground weapons on the roster, and Longshot Calibration takes it to 17, past the 14 range of a Hellfire and well past anything that has to close. A Sentinel group that keeps its spacing can trade with heavier units indefinitely, which is the point.
The weakness is structural. It cannot shoot air, it has 180 health on Light armour with no flat armour, and it fires too slowly to defend itself once something reaches it. Sentinels that are left alone die to the first fast Light unit that gets past the line.
Faction Context
The Sentinel is produced at the Barracks but requires a Research Lab to unlock, which makes the Research Lab the real gate on Protectorate anti armour before vehicles. Longshot Calibration is researched in that same lab; Heavy Rockets sits in the Mechanical Research Lab.
Together with the Commando and the Bastion it forms the infantry core the faction opens with. In later compositions the Sentinel overlaps with the Cyclops and the Juggernaut, both of which also punish Heavy armour, but it stays useful because it costs no vehicle production time.
Tier and Armour Interactions
Light armour with 0 flat armour. The Sentinel takes full damage from everything and is multiplied against by every anti Light bonus in the game, so it is one of the more fragile units for its cost on the roster.
Its own bonus keys off Heavy armour. Against Medium targets such as a Titan or an Ironwing the rail cannon is a flat 30 damage every 2.6 seconds with no multiplier, which is poor damage for the price. Sentinel counts should be matched to what the enemy actually fields.
Counters
Strong against:
Unit | Why |
|---|---|
Heavy armour at 1000 health, taking 60 per shot, or 120 with Heavy Rockets | |
Heavy armour and 400 move speed, so it cannot escape the range advantage | |
Heavy armour, though only while it is landed, since the rail cannon cannot target air | |
a Massive tagged target the Sentinel can hit from outside its Truthbringer turret range with Longshot Calibration |
Weak to:
Unit | Why |
|---|---|
+150 percent against Light armour | |
+100 percent against Light with splash across 3 range, which catches a firing line | |
+100 percent against Light at range, trading directly with the Sentinel | |
+50 percent against Light with splash, and a 15 range gatling gun | |
Any flyer | the rail cannon targets ground only |
Balance History

19 August 2026: moved onto the current animation system in the performance pass.
11 August 2026: move speed increased from 525 to 550.
Notes
The engine name is Troop_Prot_MP_HeavyRail_C. Several other games in this catalogue have an article at the slug sentinel; this page covers only the ZeroSpace unit.

The stats above describe build ZS.c36778 of 11 September 2026. Versus balance moves on a weekly cadence during Early Access, so a figure that is right today may be adjusted in the next pass.
