The Story of the First Stargazer is a Senkamati prophecy text written by an astrologer-priest sealed alive by the warlord Chik-Chan. It is the first of three Stargazer testimonies that pin the start of the Senkamati downfall on Chik-Chan's defiance of the stars.
This is the opening entry in a three-part set of Senkamati testimonies. Read together with the Story of the Second Stargazer and the Story of the Third Stargazer, it frames the fall of the Senkamati as a punishment for the warlord's refusal to heed the stars. The full set is collected in the Tales of the Stargazers.
Warlord Chik-Chan came, clothed in authority, and demanded a vision of his fate.
I questioned the stars. And the stars answered: Chik-Chan would bring great calamity upon our people. The warlord did not accept the prophecy. In his fury, he ordered my records destroyed and sealed me here forever, without food or water.
The stars are without mercy. They see. They will punish my killer.
The Chik-Chan named in this story is the Chick Chan boss creature players fight in the Plague-corrupted swamps, the in-game manifestation of the warlord's fate. The Stargazer's prophecy comes true: Chik-Chan does bring calamity (the Plague), and the stars do punish him (his bloated, corrupted swamp form).
The prophesied calamity reads in-game as the Corruption that overruns the Cursed Swamps, and the warlord's punishment is the bloated Chick Chan boss fought there. The sealed astrologer-priest who wrote this text never names a place, but the dictionary that makes the script readable comes from John's Dictionary.
