Seedbed Placement
Seedbed Placement covers the rules for building Seedbeds in Windrose. The Seedbed is the only dedicated farming structure and the backbone of the Farming System. Each Seedbed holds four crops and costs 5 Fertile Soil to construct.
Construction
Property | Value |
|---|---|
Cost | 5 Fertile Soil per Seedbed |
Planting slots | 4 slots (one at each corner of the Seedbed) |
Station type | Dedicated farming structure; placed in the base build menu |
Surface Rules
Flat, exposed terrain. Seedbeds must be placed on flat ground that is not clipping into other structures or terrain features.
Above ground level. If a Seedbed is buried in sand, clipped into a rock, or partially underground, slot count is reduced or planting is blocked entirely. Placing Seedbeds slightly above ground level (on a plinth or foundation) avoids this entirely.
Water / sunlight / soil maintenance. None required. A Seedbed on flat ground grows crops regardless of proximity to water, shelter, or time of day.
Slot Layout
Each Seedbed offers four planting slots positioned at the corners. Plant one seed per corner. All four slots share the same global ~70-minute growth timer, which means planting the four seeds simultaneously and harvesting them simultaneously is the most efficient use of the structure.
There are no documented adjacency rules between Seedbeds (no bonus or penalty from clustering). Placing Seedbeds side-by-side is fine for base-building aesthetics, but it neither speeds growth nor increases yield.
Ground Plants Exception
Three plants (Shrub, Ficus, Palm) do not require a Seedbed. These Ground Plants are placed directly on the terrain anywhere on the plot. They do not consume Fertile Soil and do not respect the four-slot-per-Seedbed limit.
Where to Get Fertile Soil
Fertile Soil is mined with a pickaxe from small raised dirt mounds at Ancient Farm ruins in the Foothills biome. A secondary source exists at ruins in the Cursed Swamps. Access to Foothills is gated behind defeating the Coastal Jungle boss; plan on gathering 30+ Fertile Soil on the first Foothills trip to avoid repeat runs.
