Pirate Remains is a hand-crafted point of interest on the east side of the starting island in Windrose. It holds the Decrepit Chest whose Blurry Sketch triggers the Fifteen Men on a Dead Man's Chest side quest.
Pirate Remains sits in a shallow coastal area east of the player's initial shipwreck spawn. The POI is recognizable by a small boat and scattered skeletal debris. A Decrepit Chest sits in the center of the scene.
Contents | Notes |
|---|---|
[object Object] | Quest item that triggers Fifteen Men on a Dead Man's Chest when read. Stored in the Curios Tab |
Random uncommon weapon | Low-level filler; rarely worth carrying |
Lamp (Oil Lamp) | Utility lighting; can be placed at base |
Reading the Blurry Sketch in the Curios Tab starts the Fifteen Men on a Dead Man's Chest quest. The quest directs the player northwest across the starting island (avoiding the central Ancient Ruins) to a dirt patch flanked by four skeletons. Opening the buried chest there spawns four Drowned Sailor enemies as an ambush encounter.
Pirate Remains itself is the quest trigger; it does not grant direct rewards when looted. Rewards for the Fifteen Men on a Dead Man's Chest quest are earned later, at the buried chest northwest of the camp and through follow-up steps. Community guides list the quest payout as a small XP and faction-reputation bundle plus a handful of Silver Ingots and Guineas at completion, but exact quantities vary by source and patch.
Most players hit Pirate Remains within the first 45 minutes of starting a new character. Bring healing and a Shovel (pre-crafted from 3 Copper Ingots plus 10 Wood at the Workbench) to complete the dig portion. If you haven't crafted the Shovel yet, pick up the Blurry Sketch first and return later; the Decrepit Chest itself does not require the Shovel to open.

The Decrepit Chest is not the only container at Pirate Remains. A Supply Cache sits inside the half-buried boat next to the skeleton, separate from the chest. Looting the cache always grants a Fast Travel Bell, which lets a fresh character set up the first travel point without spending the 10 Copper Ingot and 3 Rope crafting cost.
This makes Pirate Remains the most valuable first stop on the starting island. The order most players take: open the Decrepit Chest for the Lamp and the Blurry Sketch quest item, then loot the Supply Cache for the bell, then proceed to the central Ancient Ruins and the bonfire site.
