Brethren of the Coast Waters is the open-sea region that hosts the Brethren of the Coast faction's home territory. It is shown on the world map with blue-tinted hashed water indicating a friendly sea zone; hovering the surface reveals the "Brethren of the Coast Waters" label. The region is safer than Blackbeard Waters because Brethren patrols are non-hostile, but it is not fully pacified: Blackbeard incursions push into the edges of the region, and occasional escort encounters spawn during Brethren quest chains.

The Brethren Main Base sits on a dedicated island inside Brethren Waters. Reaching the base requires sailing from Tortuga or the starter island with a seaworthy ship. Key NPCs and landmarks on the base:
Captain Hornigold, the primary Brethren quest giver, anchors the full faction quest chain.
The Brethren Bounty Agent accepts Insignias and Letter of Favor turn-ins for faction reputation.
The Brethren Provisioner sells faction gear plans at reputation-gated tiers, including the Brig and Frigate ship des plans at Rep 2 and Rep 4 respectively.
The Brethren Buyer is the only NPC who purchases Naval Supplies, Specialized Tools, and Combat Repair Kit for Brethren reputation.
A Ranger-class ship is stationed at the base for use during the Stede Bonnet fleet engagement and similar scripted events.
Brethren Waters is the most recommended faction region to visit first after the player acquires their starter Ketch. The sail is shorter than the Smugglers base, the welcome is friendly, and the Brethren Provisioner's Brig plan unlocks access to the mid-tier ship roster earlier than the alternative routes. Sailing into the region is safe under most conditions:
Brethren patrols do not aggro on sight. The player can sail past them without needing to disengage.
Blackbeard incursion spawns can still appear at the edges of the region, particularly along the border with Blackbeard Waters. Equip Chain Shot and keep a Combat Repair Kit in the inventory even when traveling to the Main Base.
Weather events in Brethren Waters carry the same severity as other sea regions; storms can damage the hull on any crossing.
Reputation with the Brethren of the Coast is earned by handing in Insignias and Letters of Favor to the Bounty Agent and by completing the faction quest chain. Each rank unlocks more of the Provisioner's stock. The thresholds are shared across all four factions:
Rank | Reputation Required | Brethren Provisioner Unlock |
|---|---|---|
Rank 1 | 0 (starting) | Base faction stock |
Rank 2 | 100 | Brig ship plan |
Rank 3 | 400 | Mid-tier gear and Brethren-variant plans |
Rank 4 | 1,000 | Frigate ship plan |
The reputation numbers above are the rank thresholds. They are separate from the Piastre cost of buying each plan once the rank is reached: the Brig plan costs 1,000 Piastre at Rank 2 and the Frigate plan costs 3,000 Piastre at Rank 4.
Brethren Waters is the anchor region for the Brethren faction quest chain, which is the most main-story-adjacent of the four faction arcs. Reputation gains earned in this region feed into:
Brig des plan at Rep 2 (1,000 Piastre), unlocking the mid-tier Brig at the Wharf.
Frigate des plan at Rep 4 (3,000 Piastre), unlocking the endgame Frigate.
Brethren-variant ship plans, which give higher HP and cargo at the cost of sail speed compared to Stock variants.
Letters of Favor earned in the region feed directly into the faction rank progression through the Bounty Agent.
Windrose uses procedural generation for the archipelago, so the exact map position of Brethren Waters varies between playthroughs. The region always exists and always hosts the Main Base; the coordinates are seed-dependent. Follow the on-map blue-tinted hashed water and the world-map hover label rather than fixed coordinates.
