Benjamin Hornigold is the captain holding the Brethren of the Coast together after Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard, shattered the faction during his raid on Tortuga. He is the quest giver for the faction's eight-stage questline and the owner of the Ranger, the flagship the chain rebuilds. Helping him is the price of his account of the governor's artifact, which feeds into the wider story.

Role in the Faction Story

When the player first reaches the Brethren camp, Hornigold's forces are scattered and Stede Bonnet, another of Blackbeard's lieutenants, is hunting the few ships that escaped the raid. Hornigold asks the player to track down his missing friends, promising information about the governor's artifact in return. The search ends badly: both wreck sites hold no survivors, and the player has to bring the captain the news.

From there the chain turns to counterattack. Hornigold sends the player to sink two pirate patrols north of the faction's waters, then asks for 50 Wooden Planks, 50 Timber, and 50 Foothills Iron Ingots to repair the Ranger. Once the flagship is relaunched, the Brethren move against Bonnet's fleet. Bonnet sails the Royal James escorted by warships, a freighter, and raiders; the Ranger fights alongside the player and must survive the battle, or the encounter fails and restarts. With Bonnet's fleet broken, Hornigold finally shares everything he knows about the artifact.

Rewards for Helping Him

Completing the full chain pays out 20 Letters of Favor plus one of each ship-miniature decoration: Decoration: Cutter Miniatures, Decoration: Ketch Miniatures, Decoration: Brig Miniatures, and Decoration: Frigate Miniatures. The Letters of Favor feed Faction Reputation, and finishing the chain opens better stock at the Brethren of the Coast Provisioner.
