Alpha Wolf is the toughest Wolf variant in Windrose, found in the Foothills. It spawns solo rather than in a pack, carries far more health and a slice of armor, and is the reliable source of the Wolf Head trophy.
Wolves are pack predators that patrol the Foothills biome. Alpha Wolves are the strongest wolf variant and reliably drop a Wolf Head trophy.
The tables below summarize combat stats, traits, and drops for the current launch build. Values can change when balance patches adjust creature health, defenses, or loot.

Alpha Wolves roam the Foothills and respawn over time. They are most active in the evening and at night, the same window that brings out the ordinary pack wolves. Two or more alphas guard the Ancient Village point of interest that rewards the Boar Whistle, spawning near the statue stairs as part of the perimeter pack, so the altar quest is a common first meeting with the bleed charge.
The alpha returns a richer haul than a normal wolf, with guaranteed Wolf Fang and a far higher Wolf Head trophy chance. Where each part goes:
Drop | Use |
|---|---|
Tanning Rig leather for Armor and ship gear | |
Cooking ingredient for restorative meals | |
An Alchemy Table reagent and an Accessories component at the Jeweler's Bench | |
Decorative trophy; the alpha drops it at fifty percent versus five percent on a normal wolf |
The alpha wolf's most dangerous move is a telegraphed charging attack. The windup is visually flagged red, matching the same red-telegraph convention that signals heavy attacks on other Windrose enemies, and the charge closes significant distance before connecting. The listed damage on the Melee (RUN) line is the contact hit, but the charge also applies heavy Bleeding stacks that continue ticking after the initial hit. A player who eats one clean charge can bleed to death over the next several seconds even without a follow-up hit.
Mitigation steps. Keep bandages on the quick-select hotbar and use one the instant the Bleeding icon appears, rather than waiting for the health bar to drop. Food buffs that increase health regeneration partially offset the bleed tick but do not cancel it. The cleanest counterplay is to block or sidestep the charge outright, since once the red telegraph is in motion the wolf commits to a straight-line path and is easy to step around if the player is not cornered. Avoid fighting alpha wolves on narrow ledges or stairs where the charge cannot be dodged sideways.
Alpha wolves appear at the Ancient Village POI that rewards the Boar Whistle, where two or more alphas spawn near the statue stairs as part of the perimeter pack. That is a common first dangerous encounter with the bleed-charge behavior, and clearing the altar quest without bandages is a reliable way to die to a single alpha charge.
