The Control Zone

Moved the launch to past tense, added a dated note on what the developers have not published about scoring cadence, and added the named hardcore mode with its unpublished ruleset
WARDOGS is built around a single game mode rather than a menu of playlists. In every match, three teams compete to control one objective area, in a contest that works like a large-scale game of king of the hill.
A randomised Control Zone, two kilometres on each side, appears somewhere inside a single battlefield of 256 square kilometres. The team with the most players inside the zone steadily scores points, and the first team to reach 100 points wins the match. Because the zone location changes from match to match, no two games play out on exactly the same ground. Early access opened on 10 September 2026 with three maps, each of which carries three different variations, so the pool of possible battlefields is wider than the map count alone suggests. The single objective is the early access starting point rather than the finished plan: the developers list additional objective variations among the things they intend to add once early access is under way.
What the developers publish about scoring stops at that win condition. As of 11 September 2026 no official source states how often points tick or how many a team banks per tick, and community guides disagree with each other on the figure, so no interval is given here.

Within the larger zone sits a shifting Hot Zone, a smaller sub-area that raises the stakes. Players inside it count double toward their team’s presence in the zone, so contesting it can tip the score, and it also pays out double cash through the cash economy. The Hot Zone moves over the course of a match, pulling fights toward new ground.
The developers are explicit that this is neither a battle royale nor an extraction shooter. There is no shrinking play area and no loot-extraction loop. The entire match revolves around taking and holding the zone, supported by the cash economy and the players’ own tactics.
A hardcore mode exists by name. It appears as its own chapter in a development video published on 16 June 2026. What it changes has not been published, and neither has whether it is a separate kind of server or a setting on an ordinary one: as of 11 September 2026 no official source describes its rules. The phrase hardcore shooter that turns up in the studio store posts describes the tone of the game as a whole and is not a reference to this mode.
