Overview
VOID DIVER: Escape from the Abyss has a free demo available on Steam. The demo is a separate download from the main game and has been updated repeatedly during the run-up to Early Access, growing from a first taste of the gameplay into a fuller showcase that now includes online co-op.
Launch
The free demo first launched around January 26, 2026, alongside a Steam Next Fest appearance. Within about two weeks it had helped the game reach 50,000 wishlists, an early sign of momentum that continued to build through the year. Reporting around the launch most often gives the date as late January 2026.
Reception
The demo has been well received, holding around a 91% Very Positive rating from Steam users in coverage from mid-2026. As with any live rating, the exact figure can shift over time, but the reception has been consistently strong.
The Updated Next Fest Demo
For the June 2026 Steam Next Fest, the team released an updated version of the demo, and it went live early on June 12, 2026, ahead of the festival itself. The update was built around player feedback and significantly expanded what the demo offers.
New and improved content in the updated demo includes:
Area | What was added |
|---|---|
Equipment | More equipment to find and use |
Traits | New traits for character builds |
Bosses | All-new bosses, including a new mini-boss on the city-center map |
Shop management | Deeper investment in BALUSHA Antique Shop between runs: customization, hiring staff, and dealing with high-value clients |
Balance and quality of life | Balance adjustments and quality-of-life improvements based on feedback |
Coverage also notes control and aiming additions made to the demo after feedback, including full controller support, crosshairs, auto-aiming, and an auto-fire feature.
What You Can Play
The demo lets you try the core extraction loop with the two currently playable Divers, Ga-young and Raven. Raven was added to the demo at the 90,000-wishlist milestone. You can play solo or jump into online co-op, since multiplayer support is included. For a starting walkthrough, see Getting Started, and for the festival context see Steam Next Fest 2026.
