Overview
VOID DIVER: Escape from the Abyss has a free demo available on Steam. The demo is a separate download from the main game and has been updated repeatedly during the run-up to release, growing from a first taste of the gameplay into a fuller showcase that now includes online co-op.
Launch
The free demo launched on January 25, 2026, the date recorded on its Steam store listing, with the studio's launch announcement following the next day. Within about two weeks it had helped the game reach 50,000 wishlists, an early sign of momentum that continued to build through the year.
Reception
The demo has been well received, holding a Very Positive rating on Steam. As of late August 2026 its Steam review summary stood at about 84% positive across roughly 1,220 user reviews. As with any live rating the exact figure shifts over time, but the reception has been consistently strong. The demo also placed on Steam's list of the 50 most-played demos of the June 2026 Next Fest.
The Updated Next Fest Demo
For the June 2026 Steam Next Fest, the team released an updated version of the demo, and it went live early on June 12, 2026, ahead of the festival itself. The update was built around player feedback and significantly expanded what the demo offers.
New and improved content in the updated demo includes:
Area | What was added |
|---|---|
Equipment | More equipment to find and use |
Traits | New traits for character builds |
Bosses | All-new bosses, including a new mini-boss on the city-center map |
Shop management | Deeper investment in BALUSHA Antique Shop between runs: customization, hiring staff, and dealing with high-value clients |
Balance and quality of life | Balance adjustments and quality-of-life improvements based on feedback |
Control and aiming additions were also made to the demo after feedback, including full controller support, crosshairs, auto-aiming, and an auto-fire feature.
What You Can Play
The demo lets you try the core extraction loop with the four playable Divers, Ga-young and Raven, with Noah and Mio added in later demo builds. Raven was added to the demo at the 90,000-wishlist milestone. You can play solo or jump into online co-op, since multiplayer support is included. For a starting walkthrough, see Getting Started, and for the festival context see Steam Next Fest 2026.
Demo History
The free demo launched in late January 2026 and offers roughly four to six hours of gameplay. It received frequent updates through the first half of the year, adding languages, fixing combat and item balance, and expanding the systems players could try.
Update | Highlights |
|---|---|
Launch (late January 2026) | First public demo; about 4 to 6 hours of content. |
Spring 2026 | Added the ranged Diver Raven and refined combat and controls. |
June 2026 (Next Fest) | Expanded shop management, new equipment and traits, new bosses, and quality-of-life changes. |
June 2026 (Next Fest follow-up) | A mid-festival patch made the repair max-durability reduction optional, stabilized material drops, improved co-op VIP negotiation and capture-certificate sharing, added control rebinds, and tuned several enemies. The game crossed 150,000 wishlists during the festival. |
June 2026 (quality-of-life update) | Added an Abyss ATM landmark and the trait-material vendor WoAng, made repair max-durability loss proportional to remaining durability, increased the Glass Cannon Paradox penalty, added Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced character difficulty ratings, eased the Insane difficulty for solo play, applied monster elemental resistances, and fixed many co-op and character bugs. |
Quality-of-life features added in response to feedback include full controller support, crosshairs with auto-aiming, and an auto-fire option.

The demo's own Steam listing records a set of accessibility and convenience features alongside the co-op support:

Custom Volume Controls | Audio levels can be set individually. |
