Overview
VOID DIVER: Escape from the Abyss took part in Steam Next Fest in June 2026. The festival, which showcases upcoming games through free playable demos, served as a major milestone on the game's road to release. STUDIO NEMO released an updated demo for the occasion, and the game's wishlist count had surpassed 130,000 heading into the event, then crossed 150,000 during the festival.
The Updated Demo, Live Early
Rather than waiting for the festival proper, the updated demo went live early, starting June 12, 2026. This gave players a head start with a build that significantly expanded on earlier versions. The full launch and contents of this build are covered in Demo.
What the Update Added
The Next Fest update was shaped by player feedback gathered from earlier demos and rolled in a broad set of additions:
More equipment to find and use.
New traits for character builds.
All-new bosses, including a new mini-boss on the city-center map. For the broader threat lineup, see Enemies and Threats.
Balance adjustments and quality-of-life improvements.
Expanded shop management, letting players invest more in BALUSHA Antique Shop between runs, customize it, hire staff, and interact with high-value clients.
Wishlist Momentum
The developer also held a live play stream of the Next Fest demo on June 15, 2026, walking through the updated build during the festival.
The festival capped a steady climb in interest across early 2026. The game had passed 130,000 wishlists by the start of the June Next Fest run, then reached 150,000 during the festival and went on to surpass 200,000 by its close, with the game ranking among the most-played titles of the event, building on earlier milestones reached through the demo's launch and the game's appearance at PlayX4 2026. After the festival the studio set aside its Early Access plan in favor of a complete full release. See Early Access and Release.
When Steam published its roundup of the 50 most-played demos of the June 2026 Next Fest, VOID DIVER was on the list. The studio later said the more valuable outcome was the volume of feedback: it read every Steam review, community post, and bug report from the festival, and used them to set development priorities. The improvements players asked for most often were more build variety and character progression options, better inventory and storage handling, clearer tutorials and in-game guidance, and smoother moment-to-moment flow.

Schedule
VOID DIVER took part in the June 2026 Steam Next Fest, which ran from June 15 to June 22, 2026. The updated demo was made available early, starting June 12, ahead of the festival, and a maintenance window closed the earlier playtest build as the new version went live.
The Next Fest build folded in a large round of player feedback. It expanded shop management at the BALUSHA, added more equipment and new traits, and introduced new bosses including a mini-boss on the city-center map, alongside balance changes and quality-of-life improvements.
