Initial version (2026-05-31)
The Age of Reconstruction, subtitled The Dark Ages, is the second period Elliot and Faie visit on their backward journey through the four ages. Amidst the ruins of a more prosperous time, humanity's remnants live on the brink of extinction. There is no spell of Safekeeping in this age to repel the beast tribes, leaving the few surviving humans to defend themselves with meager resources and defenses.
Humanity clusters in a village called Littlehope. Its name reflects the mood of its inhabitants: most have given in to despair. Resources are scarce, defenses are thin, and the world outside offers little promise. Despite this, a small number of people refuse to surrender to circumstances, and it is through them that Elliot finds allies and information during his time in this era.
Character | Role | Notable Detail |
|---|---|---|
Heurich | Adventurer from Littlehope | Traveling the continent in search of a cure for Diona's illness; shares ruins and treasure knowledge with Elliot after a chance meeting |
Diona | Heurich's childhood friend | A chronic illness keeps her indoors most days; her caring nature earns her warmth from the other villagers, though she worries constantly about Heurich's reckless adventuring |
Calotesia | Village historian | Mutual friend of Heurich and Diona; despite the world's desperate condition, her passion for humanity's past drives her research; takes an interest in Elliot's similarities to Heurich |
Though despair is the dominant note of Littlehope, the age is not without its thread of optimism. Heurich, in particular, holds out hope that the power and wisdom gained through his journeys might eventually pull the world out of its dark ages. His parallel with Elliot, noted by Calotesia, is part of what makes this era significant: it mirrors the Age of Safekeeping's spirit of striving against difficult odds, even when the odds are much worse. The connection between the name Heurich and that of Princess Heuria in Elliot's own era is not explained in pre-release materials.
The Age of Reconstruction sits between Elliot's home era, the Age of Safekeeping, and the earlier Age of Magic. What caused Weyzn's Golden Age to collapse into the ruins Elliot sees in Littlehope is one of the story's central mysteries and has not been revealed before the game's launch.
