Stellar Blade: BLOOD RAIN is a direct sequel that takes place in the same universe as the original Stellar Blade and continues the story beyond that game's ending. SHIFT UP has framed it as the next chapter of the series, set some time after the events players already know.
What the Trailer Sets Up
The reveal centers on Evie carrying out a mission in a rain-soaked city. She tracks a group of suspicious individuals while a partner named Canna talks her through it over comms, raising something called The Scarlet Sin. Evie is also seen holding a vial as she closes in on her targets.

Before the violence erupts, a fanatic rails against what he calls the false rain that has to be stopped and invokes the Father, which hints at a cult or ideological faction tied to the transformations. The situation turns violent when one of the people she is following injects an unknown substance and mutates into a monster. Other citizens transform as well, and the scene escalates into the fast combat the game is built around.
How this thread connects to the first game's ending, who Canna is, and what The Scarlet Sin actually represents have not been explained. The game is early in development, so the wider plot remains intentionally sparse for now.

An interview around the reveal pinned down the premise that the trailer only hinted at. Evie is a member of a special forces unit, and the central thread follows her tracking down the group responsible for a major terrorist attack in the city. That investigation is what puts her on the streets shadowing suspects as the transformations begin.
Her link to Eve, the protagonist of the original game, was confirmed to be intentional, but the studio is holding back the details. The two characters are connected, yet General Director Kim Hyung-tae declined to explain how, keeping the relationship a deliberate mystery alongside questions like The Scarlet Sin and the meaning of the call sign Angel. SHIFT UP has said the sequel digs further into questions of transhumanism and what defines a human as artificial intelligence grows more capable, building on threads from the original.
