Pigs are a livestock species in Starsand Island unlocked at the Intermediate Rancher tier. They are purchased from Pastelle at Green Pasture Ranch for 650 Coins each. Pigs are housed in Pigsties and are best known for their ability to dig up Truffles, a valuable bounty item. They also produce Fur and a mysterious Unknown Mud Pile. All pig variants produce fertilizer poop, making them a dual-purpose animal for both item collection and farm maintenance.

There are four pig variants in Starsand Island. The Common Pig is the only one available for purchase; the other three are obtained exclusively through breeding.
Variant | Rarity | How to Obtain | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
Common Pig | Common | Purchase (650 Coins) from Pastelle | A common pig with a pink body. Its droppings can be used as farm fertilizer. Adult pigs search for truffles. |
Spotted Pig | Rare | Breeding (Common + Common) | A rare subspecies with multicolored fur. Its droppings can be used as farm fertilizer. |
Tusked Boar | Rare | Breeding (Common + Common) | A wild cousin of the domestic pig with sharp tusks and a rugged temperament. Its droppings can be used as farm fertilizer. |
Puffhog | Super Rare | Breeding (Spotted Pig + Tusked Boar) | A rare subspecies with very fluffy blue-green fur. Rideable as a mount (1 person). Its droppings can be used as farm fertilizer. |
The Spotted Pig and Tusked Boar can both appear as mutations when breeding two Common Pigs together. The Puffhog is the super rare variant. According to community testing, breeding a Spotted Pig with a Tusked Boar gives the best chance of producing a Puffhog, though some players have also reported obtaining one from Common + Common pairings at a very low rate.
Pigs produce several unique byproducts that are collected from the Pigsty. Product quality scales with the pig's happiness level.
Product | Source | Usage |
|---|---|---|
Truffle | Adult pigs (all variants) | Bounty item. Used in cooking recipes and NPC gifts. Sells for a high price at shops and even more via the Merchant Ship (200% value). |
Fur | All variants | Processing material. Used in crafting recipes at the Worktable. |
Unknown Mud Pile | All variants | Consumable item. Can be used directly from the bag. |
Poop | All variants | Fertilizer material. Processed in the Fertilizer Box for crop growth. |
Pigs are the only animal in Starsand Island capable of finding truffles. When an adult pig is housed in a Pigsty on your property, it will periodically search for truffles and leave them as collectible items. The frequency of truffle finds depends on the pig's happiness and whether it has been fed that day.
Truffles are classified as a bounty item and are one of the more valuable products in the ranching system. They can be sold directly at shops, given as gifts to NPCs who like them, or saved for the Merchant Ship where they sell at 200% of their base value. Some cooking recipes also call for truffles as an ingredient.
The Workaholic DNA trait increases the number of daily work cycles an animal performs, which means a pig with the Workaholic trait will search for truffles more frequently throughout the day.
The Puffhog is the super rare pig variant, recognizable by its blue-green fluffy appearance. It is the only pig that can be ridden as a mount (1 person). To ride the Puffhog, you need to equip it with a Friendship Collar, which requires reaching the Senior Rancher tier. The Puffhog must also be fully grown before it becomes rideable.
Despite its unusual appearance and mount capability, the Puffhog functions identically to other pig variants for truffle production and fertilizer poop. It produces the same byproducts at the same rates.
Pigs follow the standard animal care pattern in Starsand Island. Keeping pigs well-cared-for increases their happiness, which directly affects product quality and truffle-finding frequency.
Task | Details |
|---|---|
Feeding | Pig Feed, purchased from Pastelle at Green Pasture Ranch or crafted at the Feeder. Feed daily for maximum happiness. |
Brushing | Use a Brush or Cleaning Pod every few days. Dirty pigs get the "Messy" status, which reduces happiness. |
Petting | Pet pigs daily to boost happiness. Note: pigs with the Pride DNA trait cannot be petted. |
Happiness | Higher happiness improves product quality. Pigs at 150+ happiness produce higher-star items that sell for more. |
Pig breeding requires one male and one female pig in the same Pigsty with at least one open space. Breeding occurs overnight and can happen once per day. For controlled breeding, use the Breeding House (3,500 Coins blueprint, Intermediate Rancher) to isolate specific pairs.
Known breeding paths for pig variants:
Spotted Pig: Breed two Common Pigs together. Random mutation chance.
Tusked Boar: Breed two Common Pigs together. Random mutation chance.
Puffhog: Breed a Spotted Pig with a Tusked Boar for the highest chance. Very rare result.
Like all animals, pigs inherit DNA traits from their parents. Positive traits to look for include:
Trait | Effect |
|---|---|
Workaholic | Increased daily work cycles (more truffle finds) |
Twins | 30% chance for multiple offspring when breeding |
Precocial | Growth period reduced by 1 day |
Strong | Breeding cooldown reduced by 1 day |
Optimism | 50% happiness boost chance, reduces brushing needs |
Bulkiness | Larger physical size |
Sell pigs with negative traits like Pride (cannot be petted), Petiteness (permanently small), or Bloom (decreased happiness boost) to keep your gene pool clean.
All pig variants produce poop daily, which can be collected from the Pigsty and processed in the Fertilizer Box to create fertilizer for your crops. This makes pigs useful beyond their truffle output, especially when paired with a well-maintained farm.
Pigs are a reliable source of truffles for cooking and selling. Keep 2 to 4 in a Pigsty near your farm.
Breed Common + Common pairs first to obtain Spotted Pig and Tusked Boar variants, then breed those together for the best chance at a Puffhog.
Look for the Workaholic trait when breeding. Workaholic pigs dig up truffles more often.
Truffles sell for a decent price at shops and are worth saving for the Merchant Ship's 200% markup.
Pig poop has fertilizer value when processed in the Fertilizer Box. Collect it daily along with truffles.
The Puffhog is a fun mount option, but you need a Friendship Collar (Senior Rancher) before you can ride it.
