Hardwood Plank is the mid-game building material in Starsand Island, cut from Hardwood at the Cutter II. It replaces Softwood Plank as the default wood component in most recipes from the Junior tier onward and has the longest consumer list of any plank.

Cutting Recipe

Hardwood comes from the large dark-barked Banyan trees and requires the Impact Axe from the Junior Crafter tier. It can also be burned at the Charcoal Kiln for Coal, so decide per load whether you need planks or fuel.

Major Uses

• Stations. Building Cutter III takes 4 Hardwood Planks; the Gear Smith takes 4; Chopper II takes 5.

• Furniture in bulk. Beds, wardrobes, bookshelves, cabinets, and hundreds of other Worktable recipes use Hardwood Planks as their base wood.

• Mixed-material builds. Recipes like the Outdoor AC Unit and Timberlace Cabinet pair Hardwood Planks with Copper Sheets and Iron Ingots.

Tips

• Dedicate a Cutter II to Hardwood. With both planks and Iron Sheet production competing for Cutter II time, a second station pays for itself quickly.
