Fishing rods are the primary tools for the Angler profession in Starsand Island. Better rods reduce line tension during catches, making it easier to reel in rare and high-tier fish. Rods are unlocked progressively as you advance through the Angler profession tiers with Delphin at the AquaBlue Outpost.

When you hook a fish, a tension bar appears on screen. The bar fills as the fish fights. If the bar fills completely, the line snaps and you lose the catch. Better rods reduce the rate at which tension builds, giving you more time to reel in the fish. This is especially important for rare species in the deep-sea fishing zones (Coral Sea, Luminwave, Celestwave), where fish are larger and fight harder.
Rod upgrades follow the Angler profession tiers:
Talk to Delphin at the AquaBlue Outpost to start the Angler profession. You receive the Novice Rod for free.
Complete Apprentice Angler trials (catch specific fish, learn bait crafting) to unlock the Chrono Rod.
Advance to Junior Angler for the Cloud Rod.
Reach Intermediate Angler for the Noble Rod, which is necessary for deep-sea fishing.
Senior and Expert tiers unlock the endgame rods (Titanium, Astra, Solar) with minimal tension buildup.
Use the best rod available for your current tier. There is no reason to use a lower-tier rod unless you enjoy the extra challenge. Each rod is a strict upgrade over the previous one in terms of tension management. The jump from Cloud Rod to Noble Rod is the most significant, as it opens up the deep-sea fishing zones where the most valuable and rare fish live.
Upgrade your rod as soon as each new tier becomes available. The tension reduction makes fishing faster and less frustrating.
The Noble Rod is a critical milestone. Until you have it, deep-sea fish will snap your line frequently.
Pair rod upgrades with the correct bait for maximum efficiency. A good rod with wrong bait still catches nothing.
Endgame rods (Titanium, Astra, Solar) make catching rare fish almost trivial. Prioritize the Senior Angler trials if fishing is your main income source.
