Starsand Island has three deep-sea fishing zones located out in the open ocean: Coral Sea, Luminwave, and Celestwave. These are not reachable by swimming or paddling a raft. You need to board the Parrot Ship at Starsand Port to sail out to any of them. Each zone has its own roster of exclusive fish, some of which are among the most valuable catches in the game.
Deep-sea fishing opens after you complete the Starsand Port Construction quest. You receive this quest from Marston at the run-down dock in Half-Moon Bay. He asks for 15 Stone and 15 Softwood. Deliver the materials, and the port rebuilds overnight. The next morning, the Parrot Ship is docked and ready.
Before heading out, make sure you have the right gear. Shore fishing rods work in deep water, but you will want something better than the starter Wooden Rod. The Noble Rod (Worktable II, blueprint costs 3,500 Coins from the AquaBlue Outpost) is the first rod that feels properly equipped for ocean fishing. It requires a Rod Shaft, 2 Fishing Lines, 5 Bronze, 5 Iron Sheets, 5 Prisms, and 1 Chrono Rod to craft.
Deep-sea fish are pickier than freshwater species. You will need crafted bait, all made at the Chopper station (blueprint available from the AquaBlue Outpost shop):
Meat Bait: made from Flour and Fish Fillet. Flour comes from Wheat processed at the Separator; Fish Fillet from processing raw fish. Most deep-sea carnivores (sharks, tuna, swordfish) require this.
Veggie Bait: made from plant materials. Used for herbivorous deep-sea species like Blue Tang and Mandarinfish.
Bug Bait: processed from caught bugs. Required by a few specific species. Also reported to improve Glowfish catch rates in the Moonlit Forest.
Bring a mix of bait types on every trip. Running out of the right bait with rare fish biting is frustrating.
Deep-sea fishing uses the same tension-based reeling system as shore fishing. Cast your line, wait for a bite, then reel in while watching the line color. White means safe to reel. Red means stop immediately or the line snaps and you lose the fish. Each catch costs 10 stamina, so bring food for long sessions.
Fish availability depends on time of day, season, and weather. Some deep-sea species only appear at night (18:00 to 2:00) or during specific seasons. Check the Islandpedia app on your phone to see what bites where and when.
The Coral Sea is the first deep-sea zone most players visit. It has a tropical reef setting with colorful species. Known fish include:
Humphead Wrasse: Meat Bait, daytime (8:00 to 18:00), year-round, Sunny or Rainy weather.
Blue Tang: Veggie Bait, daytime (8:00 to 18:00), Spring through Autumn.
Sardine: caught in Coral Sea waters. Exact bait and schedule vary.
Swordfish (King): a King variant, rarer and more valuable than standard catches.
Bass: also available in this zone.
Coral Sea is a good starting zone for building confidence with deep-sea mechanics before tackling the harder catches in Luminwave and Celestwave.
Luminwave holds some of the biggest fish in the game. This zone is tied to the Angler profession progression: the Junior Angler trial sends you here to catch 10 fish. Known species:
Mola Mola (Sunfish): Meat Bait, daytime (8:00 to 18:00), year-round. One of the largest fish in the game.
Tuna: Meat Bait, daytime (8:00 to 18:00), Spring through Autumn. High sell value.
Anglerfish: Meat Bait, likely night hours. A deep-water predator.
Megamouth Shark (King): Meat Bait, a King variant. Extremely rare.
Viperfish: a deep-water species.
Moorish Idol: sometimes auto-collected during the Junior Angler trial while sailing.
Celestwave is the most remote zone and holds several night-exclusive species. You will want to arrive in the evening for the best catches:
Ribbon Eel: Meat Bait, nighttime (20:00 to 2:00), year-round, all weather.
Mandarinfish: Veggie Bait, nighttime (20:00 to 0:00), year-round.
Dolphinfish: Meat Bait, daytime (8:00 to 18:00).
Flounder: found in Celestwave waters.
Long-barbelled Dragonfish (King): a King variant and one of the rarest catches in the game.
Celestwave rewards patience. The night-only species mean you spend more time waiting for the right hours, but the payoff in sell prices and Islandpedia completion makes it worthwhile.
Each deep-sea zone has at least one King variant fish. King fish are significantly rarer than their standard counterparts and sell for much more. They are tracked separately in the Islandpedia. If you hook one, pay close attention to the tension indicator; losing a King fish to a snapped line stings.
Upgrade your rod before your first deep-sea trip. The Noble Rod (3,500 Coins blueprint) is the practical minimum.
Craft bait in bulk before sailing. You cannot craft at sea, and running out of bait means wasting the trip.
Bring food for stamina. Each catch costs 10 stamina, and a full deep-sea session burns through your bar quickly.
Check the Islandpedia for each zone's time and season requirements before departing. Showing up at the wrong hour means sitting around for nothing.
Celestwave is best visited in the evening. Several of its exclusive species only bite between 20:00 and 2:00.
King fish are rare spawns. If you are hunting a specific King, expect multiple trips.
