Overview
Motives are equippable weapons in Silver Palace. Each character has a Motive slot that determines their weapon type, base stats, and passive combat effects. The system has been compared to Lightcones from Honkai: Star Rail by multiple outlets, including esports.gg, because Motives function as stat-stick equipment with unique passive abilities rather than purely cosmetic weapon choices.
Weapon types
Motives cover a wide range of weapon types. Characters in the Monotype Beta wielded revolvers, shotguns, machine guns, flamethrowers, swords, cane swords, cleavers, and gauntlets. Each character's weapon type is fixed, so a sword user cannot equip a shotgun Motive. Instead, different Motives within the same weapon category provide different stat distributions and passive effects.
Some weapon examples from the beta:
The Detective uses a silver sword and sidearm gun
Alf uses a lever-action shotgun that converts into a flamethrower
Cinderella wields a flame sword and machine gun
Firtho fights with a red saw cleaver that functions as a chainsaw
Argos uses a cane sword with a hidden blade and cane-gun mode
Lorin fights with electric boxing gloves
Rarity
Motives come in multiple rarity tiers, similar to the character rarity system. Higher-rarity Motives have better base stats and more powerful passive effects. The specific rarity names and tier structure are expected to follow standard gacha conventions (3-star through 5-star), though the exact breakdown was not fully documented during the beta.
How to obtain
Motives are obtainable through gacha pulls, in-game currency purchases, story progression rewards, quest completions, and limited-time events. The gacha system for Motives operates alongside the character gacha but on separate banners, meaning players can target weapon pulls independently of character pulls.
Passive effects
Each Motive has a unique passive ability that affects combat performance. These passives interact with the Silverdrip system and Catalyst mechanics, meaning the right Motive choice can amplify specific build strategies. For example, a Motive with a passive that boosts damage during character swaps synergizes with aggressive Silverdrip spending.
