Overview
The Evidence Board is the interface for examining cases and submitting evidence against them. It sits in the Detective's office inside S.T.A.T.S. on Morgue Street, and it is also reachable from the main menu, so a case can be worked without walking back to the agency.
It is officially named. English copy calls it the Evidence Board; the Chinese copy calls it 线索板, the clue board.
How It Works
Cases the player has unlocked can be opened from the board. Evidence collected in the field goes into the Evidence Repository, and from there it can be dropped into the slots next to a hypothesis. Placing the correct piece advances the case through a new deduction, and the chain runs on until the Final Hypothesis is reached.
Not every clue is meant to fit. Some of what the Detective picks up is misleading by design, so part of the work is deciding which evidence is key, which is noise and which looks reasonable but will not hold. On Curious Deductions cases the Restart Deduction button reverts board progress so a different reading can be tried.
Where Evidence Comes From
Source | What it yields |
|---|---|
Notable objects | Items found and then examined in detail |
People | Observations drawn from a person's personality and physical characteristics |
Crime scenes | Direct investigation of the scene, covered on Investigation System |
Hostile locations | Material taken by infiltration, covered on Stealth Mechanics |
Case Types
Type | What it covers |
|---|---|
Main Cases | The critical path, tracked scene by scene on Main Story |
Curiosities | Cases assembled from evidence found out in the city |
Main Cases in the Second Closed Beta Build
Case | Premise |
|---|---|
The Stolen Silver Mystery | A rich man kept silver coins in a safe. The key was never used, and the coins are gone. |
Case of the Journalist's Death | Grimm the journalist is found dead in an alley, the once arrogant reporter silenced. |
Theft at the Royal Bank | A considerable sum of antique silver coins goes missing from the Royal Bank's vaults, and a key investor is conspicuously unbothered. |
Case of the Rising Detective's Death | Listed on the board with no published premise. |
Cinderella's Case | Grimm stumbles onto a case too big for him and is left with one option, faking his own death. |
The Curiosities list in the same build held the Legend of the Werehound. The first case in the set, the stolen silver, is the puzzle the assistant poses to the Detective in Act I rather than a crime scene, which shows the board handling word problems as readily as physical evidence.
Notes
The board's name and the Restart Deduction behaviour are official. The repository, the hypothesis slots and the case list are transcribed from the second closed beta build.
The board is one half of the detective loop. The other is the Mindpalace, the space the Detective enters to reorganise clues and character relationships, which is designed to assist rather than to supply the answer.
