Neo Yokohama (新横浜) is the city Chigusa Choko was travelling to when she was killed, and the wilderness outside it is where she comes back to life.
Neo Yokohama is the reimagined former Los Angeles. The game's materials have also described it as the city once known as Hollywood, and the hillside sign that once read Hollywood now reads NEO YOKOHAMA. The three descriptions fit together rather than compete: the publisher names the city as formerly Los Angeles, the official site reaches for Hollywood, and the sign on the hill carries the new name in letters.
The name follows the setting's convention of prefixing Japanese cities the way settlers prefixed their hometowns with New. The creative director said in 2024 that he had named the city before he learned a real Shin-Yokohama exists. Earlier first-party copy from 2022 spelled it New Yokohama; everything from 2024 onward uses Neo Yokohama.
Choko, a 19-year-old stunt double who had always wanted to become a movie star, made a long journey to Neo Yokohama with her younger sister Aya so that she could audition for a new action film. She never reached the audition. Shortly after arriving at the airport she was assassinated by a group of mysterious men in black, who buried her body in the wilderness outside the city and took Aya with them.
Choko revived in that wilderness an unknown time later, into a Neo Yokohama that The Cataclysm had already ruined. Finding Aya is what starts her journey.
Mount Neo Yokohama, the hill that carries the sign, sits within the city and is the setting of Chapter 3. It is where most of what the gamescom 2026 demo showed takes place, including its encounters with the bandits of The Warriors. The Foothill Shopping District at the mountain's base is the one part of the city that has been played publicly. First-party copy calls it an open-ended area where players are free to explore, interact with characters and facilities, or push the objective forward. The developers state that the demo build is not representative of the finished game.
In that same demo build, Choko wears a mask and operates through Neo Yokohama as a vigilante, accompanied by Michael Hero and Bubba. The developers state that the build's content and parameters were adjusted for the showing, so how much of that framing survives into the finished game is not settled.
Neo Yokohama is one of four cities named for the game, and the route out of it is covered on Cities and World Structure. The year and premise behind the place are on Showa 66 Setting.
Choko's pursuit of the Man in Black eventually reaches San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge in the demo build's Chapter 4. As of September 2026 the developers have not said whether Mutsuki Akitora is the Man in Black whom Choko pursues in Chapter 4. The two have been widely linked since the gamescom demo, but nothing official confirms it, and this page does not treat them as the same character.
