Release Window
The release window is the bare year 2026. The store's release-date field reads 2026 and the game is marked as coming soon. No month, quarter or day appears in any first-party material.
That window has already moved once, and both changes were announced. A 2025 window was given alongside the trailer released on 31 October 2024. On 12 November 2025 the studio moved the window from 2025 to 2026, with the reasoning covered on Development History. Both changes were stated by the studio rather than appearing as a silent edit to the listing.
On 7 September 2026 the studio's founder and chief executive said that a specific release date still could not be given, and that the game had entered its final polishing stage, with small corrections and adjustments continuing in order to finish the retail version. That is a statement about the state of the work rather than a narrowing of the window, and the announced window is still the bare year.
Platforms
Showa American Story is announced for PC and PlayStation 5. A PlayStation 4 version was part of the original January 2022 announcement and no longer appears in current platform listings. No formal cancellation has been announced.
The Steam listing publishes Windows requirements only, and as of September 2026 it carries no macOS or Linux listing. No macOS or Linux version has been announced. That is not in tension with the PlayStation 5 announcement: the store entry is the PC version, and the values published for it are reproduced on System Requirements.
As of September 2026 the PlayStation 5 version has not been listed on the PlayStation Store in any tested region. There is therefore no console price, file size, language table, feature tag, trophy list, age-rating badge or preorder date to record. As of September 2026 a Korean storefront listing exists with a status of to be released, carrying no date, price, platform or language table.
Modes, Languages and Genre
The game is single-player, with full controller support.
The store listing as of September 2026 gives full audio in English, Japanese and Simplified Chinese, with Traditional Chinese as text only. The build shown at gamescom 2026 Demo offered Japanese voice with Japanese, English and Chinese text. Announced performers are listed on Voice Cast.
The developer's own genre string is RPG. The store additionally classifies the game under Action, Adventure and Indie.
Age Ratings
As of September 2026 the game is unrated by the ESRB, PEGI, CERO, USK and Taiwan's board, and the studio's own game page lists the age rating as not yet set. The store listing carries three regional ratings:
Region | Rating carried on the store page | Descriptors listed with it |
|---|---|---|
Brazil | DEJUS 16 | Extreme violence, fear, and inappropriate language |
Germany | Steam-declared 16 | Drastic violence, sexual suggestion, alcohol and tobacco |
Indonesia | IGRS 18 | Character depiction, violence, and tobacco, electronic cigarettes, alcohol, narcotics, psychotropics and other addictive substances |
Those are storefront regional ratings and nothing more, and the Brazilian one is recorded from the store listing rather than from the Brazilian registry itself. The German 16 is not a USK rating, and the store's mature-content descriptors are not an ESRB assignment. Neither should be read as a board decision.
The studio said in 2024 that a gore intensity setting would ship in the options menu, so that regional versions can stay as close to identical as possible.
Not Yet Announced
As of September 2026 no price has been announced in any region, and there are no announced editions, preorder incentives, bonuses, downloadable content or season pass. There is also no downloadable or storefront demo: the gamescom 2026 build was played on-site only.
