Mutsuki Akitora
September 8, 2026 at 11:45 PM
Removed an unsupported statement about the rest of the cast and corrected who described the Chapter 4 fight
Mutsuki Akitora is a swordsman introduced in the gamescom 2026 trailer. The publisher's own English copy calls him mysterious and says he may join Chigusa Choko on her journey or set himself against her, as a party companion or as a rival. He fights with a katana. That, plus his voice actor, is the entire public record on him.
The name is written surname first, as the publisher's English copy writes it: Mutsuki is the family name, Akitora the given name. Reversed renderings circulate and are not the form the game uses. A misprinted second character in the given name has also circulated; it is a typographical error, not a variant.
His introduction fits a rule the announcement copy sets out for the cast generally: survivors Choko meets on the road may become companions who travel with her, and others may set themselves against her. Mutsuki Akitora is the one the copy deliberately leaves on both, and he was among the characters given announced Japanese voice actors at gamescom 2026.

The developers have not said whether Mutsuki Akitora is the Man in Black whom Choko pursues to the Golden Gate Bridge in Chapter 4. The two have been widely linked since the gamescom demo, where the Chapter 4 boss is a black-clad, ninja-styled swordsman with a katana, but nothing official confirms the connection, and this page does not treat them as the same character.
As a description of that Chapter 4 opponent rather than an identification: in the build shown at gamescom 2026, he closes distance quickly and attacks in katana combinations, and the fight was described as demanding in that build. Bosses covers the encounter itself, and gamescom 2026 Demo covers the build it appeared in, which the developers say does not represent the finished game.
His origin, age, motive and allegiance are unpublished. No source states whether he belongs to any group, whether he ends up fighting beside Choko or against her, or how far into the story he appears. The announcement copy holds both possibilities open on purpose, and until the studio says otherwise, both stay open here. How he handles himself in Combat beyond the katana has not been detailed.
