Overview
Players progress through magic ranks at the Magic Academy, unlocking increasingly powerful exploration magics and combat abilities. The magic system is one of the core pillars of Roco Kingdom: World, intertwining with exploration, combat, and crafting to create a unified progression experience. Each magic rank opens new possibilities for how players interact with the world, from breathing underwater to flying through the skies above Sky City.
Magic Rank Progression
Magic ranks are earned through a combination of level requirements, qualification tests, and combat trials at the Magic Academy. Each rank unlocks new abilities, quests, and game features. The following table outlines the full rank progression system.
Rank | Chinese | Level | Requirements | Unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Magic Apprentice | 魔法学徒 | Start | None | Basic auxiliary and interactive skills. This is the tutorial phase where players learn fundamental magic concepts. |
1-Star Mage | 一星魔法师 | 5 | Promotion quest: defeat training dummies and a level 8 Magic Puppet boss | Daily academy commissions, pet skill enhancement, access to Spirit cultivation upgrades |
2-Star Mage | 二星魔法师 | Mid | Qualification tests + combat trials | Multi-attribute magic application, expanded spell repertoire |
3-Star Mage | 三星魔法师 | Mid-High | Qualification tests + advanced combat trials | Tactical combinations, ability to chain multiple magic types in sequence |
4-Star+ Mage | 四星+魔法师 | High | Fusing multi-attribute magic, defeating guardian beasts in endgame trials | Large-scale group magic, attribute fusion, ultimate-tier spells for multiplayer scenarios |
Reaching 1-Star Mage at level 5 is the first major milestone in the magic system. The promotion quest requires defeating training dummies in the academy courtyard, followed by a boss fight against a level 8 Magic Puppet. This fight serves as a skill check to ensure the player understands basic combat mechanics before advancing. Completing this promotion unlocks daily academy commissions, which become an important source of daily income and progression.
Exploration Magics
Exploration magics are special abilities that allow players to traverse environments that would otherwise be inaccessible. Each magic is learned through specific story events or quest chains, and they permanently expand the player's ability to interact with the world map.
Magic | Chinese | Effect | How to Learn |
|---|---|---|---|
Water Repelling Charm | 避水咒 | Allows underwater exploration without drowning. Essential for deep-sea areas and underwater caves. | Created by Enzo, inspired by fish respiration research. Learned through the Enzo story questline. |
Wind Riding | 御风术 | Summons a magic balloon for flight in the Sky City region. Provides free vertical movement within the Sky City airspace. | Learned from a Wright Brothers researcher stationed at Sky City. Requires completing the Sky City introduction quest. |
Liquefaction | 液化术 | Transforms the player's body into liquid form, allowing passage through narrow gaps and cracks in walls. | Unlocked through exploration puzzle quests. Required for accessing several hidden areas. |
Alchemy | 炼金术 | Craft magic items, potions, and Gulu Balls at alchemy stations scattered throughout the world. | Mandatory Magic Academy course. Learned early in the main story as part of the academy curriculum. |
Bubble Art | 气泡术 | Underwater combat and traversal ability. Enhances mobility and protection while submerged. | Learned at the Atlantis ruins during the underwater expedition questline. |
Magic in Combat
Magics learned through rank progression also enhance combat capabilities. As players climb the mage ranks, they gain access to increasingly powerful combat techniques. Higher ranks unlock multi-attribute tactical combinations where two or more element types are woven together in a single turn, creating devastating effects that neither element could produce alone. At 4-Star rank and above, players can deploy large-scale group magic in multiplayer scenarios, coordinating with teammates to unleash area-of-effect spells that affect entire battlefields.
The progression from simple single-element spells to complex multi-attribute fusions mirrors the overall difficulty curve of the game's combat system. Early battles require only basic attacks and type matchups, while endgame encounters demand mastery of attribute fusion and tactical spell chaining.
Alchemy Crafting
Alchemy is the most practically useful exploration magic, as it ties directly into the game's crafting and resource economy. Players can craft a variety of items at alchemy stations found near most settlements and fast travel points.
