The Anomaly is the supernatural phenomenon at the heart of PUBG: Black Budget. It consumes Coli Island, the location where the game takes place, and is tied to the time loop that traps the island. The Anomaly is both a story element and a core gameplay system.

Effect on the Play Area

As a gameplay system, the Anomaly gradually shrinks the playable area over the course of a session. This steadily reduces the space available to players, creating tense and unpredictable scenarios every loop and pushing Contractors toward confrontation and toward extraction. It works together with the session timer and the difficulty scaling to ramp up pressure the longer a run lasts.

Role in the World

Within the story, the Anomaly is the force that has trapped the island in a time loop and made it dangerous and unstable. It is one of the central mysteries that Contractors are sent to investigate, alongside the abandoned research facility and the black-budget initiative known as SAPIENS.
