Transform Specialty

Initial article for the Transform specialty.
Transform is a unique Pokemon Specialty in Pokemon Pokopia exclusive to Ditto, the player character. Unlike other specialties that automate tasks performed by NPC Pokemon, Transform is the player's core gameplay mechanic. Ditto uses Transform to learn 14 different moves from befriended Pokemon and channel those moves through partial-body transformations.
Lets Ditto learn moves from befriended Pokemon (14 total moves in the game)
Allows Ditto to use those moves on demand, with each move powered by PP
Triggers partial transformations of Ditto's body matching the source Pokemon (Squirtle-shaped arms for Water Gun, Scyther-blade claws for Cut, and so on)
Move | Source Pokemon | Function |
|---|---|---|
Water Gun | Squirtle | Water plants, fight fires, fill containers |
Leafage | Bulbasaur | Grow tall grass on land and water |
Cut | Scyther | Chop trees, grass, wood piles |
Rock Smash | Hitmonchan | Break rocks and crackable terrain |
Rototiller | Drilbur | Till soil for farming |
Jump | Magikarp | Press R to jump |
Surf | Lapras | Swim across water |
Camouflage | Zorua | Blend into surroundings |
Strength | Machoke | Push heavy boulders |
Glide | Dragonite | Soar between floating islands |
Magnet Rise | Magnemite | Hover above electrical surfaces |
Rollout | Graveler | Barrel through clusters of breakable terrain |
Waterfall | Various | Climb waterfalls |
Suck Up Liquids | Paldean Wooper | Drink and dispense liquids; later allows Y-button vacuuming of liquids |
Ditto is the only Pokemon with the Transform specialty. Wild Ditto in the game world have transformation abilities but cannot maintain stable human form like the player character. The player Ditto's unique stable transformation is part of the game's central mystery, hinted at being tied to its missing trainer.
Befriend Pokemon in the order their moves become useful. Squirtle and Bulbasaur are top priority since Water Gun and Leafage drive most early gameplay.
Eat flavor-matched cooked food to power up Cut, Leafage, Rock Smash, and Water Gun temporarily.
Transform is the most flexible specialty in the game because the player controls when each move is used. Treat it as a tool ring rather than a passive skill.
