Sevii Islands Reference

Pokemon Pokopia contains an in-game written reference to the Sevii Islands, a chain of islands that the in-game magazine describes as a southern vacation destination in the Kanto region. The reference is notable both as a callback to older series lore and as potential foreshadowing of future DLC content.
The reference appears in a copy of an in-game magazine that players can find as readable lore content. The magazine entry contains a passage stating:

"The Sevii Islands, located in the southern part of the Kanto region, are a popular vacation spot due to their temperate climate... I heard that there are a lot of rare Pokemon to see here."
The text frames the Sevii Islands as a vacation destination rather than just a geographic feature, mirroring how the islands have been described as a holiday region in older series lore. The mention of "rare Pokemon" is the most provocative detail because Pokopia's gameplay revolves around befriending Pokemon, and rare-Pokemon spawn-zones are exactly the kind of content that would justify a DLC expansion.
Pokopia contains two locked area gates that cannot be opened through any normal gameplay means: one in the north of Withered Wasteland and one on the east side of Sparkling Skylands. Both gates display the message "Something on the other side is obstructing the entrance for safety," and no combination of Trainer Rank, Pokedex completion, or story progression unlocks them.
Combined with the Sevii Islands magazine reference, the locked gates form the basis of community DLC speculation. The theory is that one or both gates will eventually unlock to allow travel to a Sevii Islands region in a future expansion. See Locked Gates and Future Content for the full speculation breakdown.
The Sevii Islands chain consists of seven inhabited islands plus two unnamed locations, located south of the Kanto region. They are referenced in older series lore but do not appear elsewhere in Pokopia.
If the Sevii Islands are eventually added to Pokopia through DLC, the in-game magazine reference would be the earliest hint of that plan.
As of May 2026, neither Game Freak, The Pokemon Company, nor Nintendo have officially announced any DLC or expansion pass for Pokemon Pokopia. The Sevii Islands reference is exactly that: a reference. It does not constitute confirmation of future content. The development team has stated only that they are focused on improving the base game experience through patches and limited-time events.
However, Pokopia's strong commercial performance (2.2 million units sold in the first four days) and critical reception (critically acclaimed as the highest-rated Pokemon title to date) make a DLC expansion plausible from a business standpoint. The presence of these in-game references suggests the developers planned for this possibility, though planning is not the same as commitment.
Look for the magazine note while exploring Pokopia's locations. It is one of several collectible Human Records and magazines scattered through the game.
Photograph the magazine page with Photo Mode for documentation purposes; players who interpret it as DLC foreshadowing tend to share screenshots widely.
Visit both locked gates (Withered Wasteland north, Sparkling Skylands east) to see them in person. They display the same generic message but are placed deliberately in their respective regions.
Treat the reference as speculation rather than confirmation when discussing future content. The wiki maintains the position that no DLC is officially announced.
