Overview

Peakychu is one of the seven Special Pokemon in Pokemon Pokopia. She is a female Pikachu (Electric type, Pokedex #079) with an unusually pale, ghostly white coloring and a faint ethereal glow emanating from her body. Unlike a standard Pikachu, Peakychu has a smaller-than-average tail, distinctive drooping ears, and has lost her rosy cheek pouches. She wears a yellow construction helmet and holds the exclusive Illuminate specialty, making her essential to completing the Bleak Beach storyline. Peakychu has become one of the most popular characters in Pokopia due to her tragic backstory and emotional arc.

Appearance

Peakychu's appearance is strikingly different from a standard Pikachu:

Her luminous quality is directly tied to her Illuminate specialty. Despite her ghostly appearance, Peakychu is confirmed to be an Electric type, not a Ghost type.

Backstory

Peakychu's backstory is one of the most emotional narratives in Pokopia. Her Pokedex entry reads:

"When its friends were sick, this Pokemon repeatedly shared its own electricity with them. As a result, its physical structure changed, and it became unable to generate electricity."

During the catastrophic climate crisis that led to humanity's evacuation from Kanto, many Pokemon became ill. Peakychu repeatedly shared her own electrical energy with her sick friends to nurse them back to health. This selfless, continuous act of giving away her power permanently altered her physical structure: her bright yellow fur turned ghostly white, her tail shrank (since it normally stores electricity), her rosy cheek pouches faded, and she became permanently unable to generate electricity on her own.

However, Peakychu can still manipulate electricity if she receives charge from an external source. This is the key gameplay mechanic tied to her character: she cannot power anything alone, but when connected to the settlement's electrical infrastructure (windmills, waterwheels, furnaces, and charging stations), she channels that external power through her Illuminate specialty to light up an entire area at once.

Location and How to Encounter

Peakychu is found in Bleak Beach, the second main area. She does not appear until specific story conditions are met:

1. Complete the Withered Wasteland special requests.

2. Reach Great Trainer Rank.

3. Unlock the eastern door leading to Bleak Beach.

4. Progress through Bleak Beach until you meet Mosslax (the sleeping legendary Pokemon).

5. After meeting Mosslax, a dialogue triggers where Meowth spots someone lying on the ground elsewhere in Bleak Beach.

6. Follow Meowth to find Peakychu washed up on a small island.

7. A cutscene introduces Peakychu and her situation.

Peakychu does not join the player immediately. You must complete her personal requests as part of the "Brighten Things Up" quest chain before she fully integrates into your settlement.

Illuminate Specialty

Peakychu possesses the Illuminate specialty, which is exclusive to her. No other Pokemon in the game has this ability. Illuminate is distinct from the more common Generate specialty:

Because Peakychu cannot generate her own electricity, she must first be charged via the charging station infrastructure. Players need to build windmills, waterwheels, and furnaces connected by utility poles to five charging stations. Once all five charging station indicators are lit, Peakychu receives the charge and uses Illuminate to brighten the entire Bleak Beach resort at once. This is the culmination of the "Brighten Things Up" quest.

Role in the Story

Peakychu plays a central role in the Brighten Things Up Important Request in Bleak Beach. The quest, given by Professor Tangrowth, requires accumulating 100 brightness points. Key steps involving Peakychu:

1. Shell Lamp Creation: Peakychu requests that you craft a Shell Lamp and place it in Mosslax's cave. A Pokemon with the Generate specialty must power it.

2. Windmill Discovery: Peakychu leads you to a windmill on the ocean, introducing the Generator and Utility Pole mechanics for distributing power across the settlement.

3. Power Infrastructure: Build windmills (10-20 power units), waterwheels (20 units), and furnaces (30 units) connected via utility poles to five charging stations.

4. Charging Station: Connect all power sources to the central charging device using utility poles. All five bulb indicators must be lit.

5. Peakychu's Moment: Once all five charging stations are powered, return to Peakychu. She receives the charge and uses Illuminate to brighten the entire resort.

6. Raikou Encounter: The legendary Pokemon Raikou strikes the cave with thunder, creating an opening for sunlight and fully waking Mosslax.

Name Origin

The name "Peakychu" combines "peaky," a British English word meaning pallid, pale, or sickly-looking, with "Pikachu." Each language localization uses a similar approach:

Fan Reception

Peakychu has become a fan-favorite character, with her tragic backstory drawing emotional reactions from players. Official merchandise includes a Peakychu Plush Toy and a Peakychu LED Light, both available through Pokemon Center Japan. Peakychu also appears on custom Pokopia-themed apparel at Uniqlo.

Tips

• Peakychu is essential for completing Bleak Beach. Focus on building the electrical infrastructure (windmills, waterwheels, utility poles) before trying to activate Illuminate.

• Peakychu cannot generate electricity on her own. She needs all five charging stations to be powered by external sources first.

• Once Illuminate is active, new habitats and Pokemon become available in Bleak Beach that were previously locked behind the darkness.

• Check Peakychu's comfort level regularly and place her preferred items (electronics, glass stuff, cute stuff) near her home.

• After completing the Brighten Things Up quest, Peakychu can travel to all five regions and Cloud Islands.
