Bleak Beach
March 6, 2026 at 06:44 PM
Major expansion with full walkthrough, all Pokemon/habitats, electricity system, Brighten Things Up quest, SS Anne details, and Raikou encounter
Bleak Beach is the second story area in Pokemon Pokopia, based on the remains of Vermilion City from the original Kanto region. This flooded and polluted beachfront zone is initially covered in perpetual darkness regardless of the time of day. As the player completes story objectives, lights up the area using electricity, and restores the environment, Bleak Beach brightens considerably. The area features the iconic S.S. Anne ship, a complex electricity generation system, and a unique cast of characters including Meowth, Peakychu (a ghostly Pikachu), and Mosslax (a moss-covered Snorlax).
Bleak Beach's exclusive hedge type is the Healthy Hedge, which can only be placed in this area.
Bleak Beach unlocks after completing the "Yawn Up a Storm" Important Request in the Withered Wasteland. This raises the player to Great Trainer Rank, opening the green gates to both Bleak Beach and Rocky Ridges. Bleak Beach is accessed through the eastern gate in the Withered Wasteland, across rock cliffs east of the Pokemon Center. Players can explore Bleak Beach and Rocky Ridges in any order.
Bleak Beach features coastal and seaside habitats with a focus on water, electric, and normal-type Pokemon. Many habitats involve flowers, tropical plants, and ocean elements.
These Pokemon are encountered through the main storyline and quests:
Pokemon | Habitat | Role |
|---|---|---|
Meowth | Pre-existing (met upon arrival) | Primary quest giver. Provides multiple requests involving habitat creation and decorating his home. |
Piplup | Hydrated Yellow Tall Grass (4 Yellow Tall Grass near water) | Central to unlocking the Surf move. Sprays bubbles on muddy areas so they can be washed with Water Gun. |
Torchic | Chirp-Chirp Meal | Helps process Squishy Clay into Bricks. Can burn materials at the Furnace to generate electricity. |
Trubbish | Trash Collection Site (Waste Bin, Garbage Bag, Sign) | Converts Nonburnable Garbage into Iron Ore. Leads the player to the lighthouse for the Brighten Things Up quest. |
Pawmi | Breezy Flower Bed (4 Seashore Flowers) | Electric-type that can power Harbor Streetlights and other electrical structures. |
Pawmo | Various habitats | Evolved form of Pawmi; also provides electricity for lighting structures. |
Lapras | Tropical Seaside (1 Large Palm Tree, 2 Ocean Water blocks, 4 Hedges along shoreline) | Teaches the Surf move after the player cleans up the muddy beach. |
Peakychu | Found during Brighten Things Up quest | A ghostly variant of Pikachu. Helps with the electricity and lighting questline. Needs help getting its electrical ability working. |
Mosslax | Cave (requires 100 bloom points) | A moss-covered Snorlax found snoozing in a cave. Awakened by lighting 100 bloom points worth of structures. |
Raikou | Appears after completing Brighten Things Up | Legendary Electric-type beast. Appears at the conclusion of the area's main storyline. |
Other habitats that can be built in Bleak Beach:

Meet Meowth and light three streetlights using electric Pokemon.
Build a Resort Meal Prep habitat (Bonfire, Log Chair, Wooden Plate with Leppa Berry next to Palm Tree) to befriend Peakychu.
Craft a Shell Lamp (1 Shell, 1 Sea Glass Fragments) and place it in Mosslax's cave. Light it with an electric Pokemon.
Follow Peakychu to a windmill. Collect Utility Poles and connect them to the wind turbine.
Connect Harbor Streetlights to powered Utility Poles to light up more of the area.
Accept Torchic's electricity generation request. Find the Furnace on the southwest side of the map and connect Utility Poles to it. Burn Lumber and Sturdy Sticks to generate power.
Find the Water Wheel on the southeast side. Destroy blocks north of it to allow water flow and activate it.
Take Trubbish to the lighthouse on the east side. Connect a power pole to the roof to activate the spotlight.
Connect the windmill, Furnace, and Water Wheel to the central charging station using Utility Poles.
Continue lighting structures until bloom points reach 100. Mosslax awakens.
Climb to the top of the lighthouse where Raikou appears.
Bleak Beach introduces the electricity generation system, which is central to the area's story. Three methods of generating power are available, and all can be connected via Utility Poles to a central charging station.
Generator | Location | How It Works |
|---|---|---|
Windmill | Central area | Already active when found. Connect Utility Poles to distribute power. |
Furnace | Southwest side | Burn Lumber and Sturdy Sticks to generate electricity. Torchic helps operate it. |
Water Wheel | Southeast side | Destroy water-blocking blocks to allow flow and activate. Generates hydroelectric power. |
Power flows through Utility Poles that must be connected in a chain from generators to the central charging station and then out to streetlights, lamps, and other structures. Each lit structure contributes bloom points toward the 100-point goal for awakening Mosslax.
The bloom point system tracks how much light has been restored to Bleak Beach. Each powered structure (streetlight, lamp, spotlight) adds bloom points. When the total reaches 100, Mosslax awakens from its cave, completing the Brighten Things Up quest. The bloom counter can be checked by interacting with Mosslax or approaching the Pokemon Center.
Location | Description |
|---|---|
S.S. Anne | The iconic ship from Pokemon Red and Blue, now stranded at the beach. Contains the Sailor Outfit Human Record and several Lost Relics. Can be explored once Surf is unlocked. |
Pokemon Center Ruins | Initially in rubble. Can be rebuilt once Environment Level reaches the required threshold. The Ranger Outfit Human Record is found nearby. |
Mosslax's Cave | A dark cave where the moss-covered Snorlax sleeps. Discovered by using Rock Smash to break through rocks. Requires 100 bloom points to complete. |
Lighthouse | Located on the east side of Bleak Beach. The spotlight is activated by connecting power poles to the roof. Raikou appears at the top after the Brighten Things Up quest. |
Meowth's House | A flooded home that serves as the hub for Meowth's decoration requests. Players block water, add lamps, planters, and flowers. |
Southwestern Furnace | A power generator operated by burning Lumber and Sturdy Sticks. Torchic assists with operation. |
Water Wheel | A hydroelectric generator on the southeast side. Activated by allowing water to flow through destroyed blocks. |
Lumineon Poster | A poster depicting Lumineon swimming underwater. Fans have identified this as a possible teaser for the upcoming Pokemon Winds and Waves generation. |
Raikou, the legendary Electric-type beast, appears at the top of the lighthouse after the player completes the "Brighten Things Up!" Important Request. After powering up all the lights and awakening Mosslax, return to the lighthouse and climb to the top. Raikou appears and expresses surprise at the player's ability to illuminate the entire town. After a conversation, Raikou departs.

Story progression in Bleak Beach requires raising Environment Level by befriending Pokemon and building habitats. Rebuilding the Pokemon Center requires a higher Environment Level and is part of the requirement to see the game's credits. To complete the Team Initiation Challenge, players must also raise Bleak Beach's Environment Level to 5, which unlocks the Washing Machine recipe.
Craft Bridge Planks at your Workbench before heading to Bleak Beach. You need them immediately to cross the broken bridge.
Watch your PP while using Surf. The move drains PP continuously, so return to land or the Pokemon Center if running low.
Befriend Pawmi early from the Breezy Flower Bed habitat. Electric Pokemon are essential for powering streetlights throughout the Brighten Things Up quest.
Connect all three generators (Windmill, Furnace, Water Wheel) to the central charging station for maximum power output.
