Overview
The Character Editor is the in-game interface where players configure their explorer's appearance. It is accessed at the beginning of a new game before the player enters the world. The editor provides real-time visual feedback: changes to body type, hairstyle, clothing, and colors are displayed immediately on the character model.
For a full list of available options, see the Character Customization article.
Editor Interface
The editor presents the character model in the center of the screen with category tabs on the side. Players navigate between body type, hairstyle, hair color, clothing style, clothing color, and skin tone using these tabs. Each tab shows all available options as a visual grid, allowing quick comparison between choices.
Body Types
The editor includes multiple body types. The concept artist created additional body shapes during development beyond the initial default. Body type selection affects the character's silhouette during gameplay and is independent of other customization choices.
Clothing and Colors
Starting clothing options are selected in the editor. Each outfit has configurable color variants. Additional clothing styles discovered during gameplay (hidden at landmarks and in the world) are added to the player's wardrobe and can be equipped after discovery. It is not yet confirmed whether the editor can be re-accessed after the initial character creation, but the hidden clothing system suggests an in-game wardrobe menu exists.
Multiplayer Considerations
In multiplayer sessions, each player creates their own character independently. When joining a co-op session, each player's customized character appears in the shared world. The low-poly art style ensures that different character configurations are visually distinct even at a distance.
Development Background
The character editor was the last feature unlocked during the Kickstarter campaign as the tenth stretch goal. Square Glade Games added it in response to community demand for personalization options. The feature was not part of the original game design but became one of the most requested additions during the campaign.
