Mount Oe is a confirmed location in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. It is a mountain range in Kyoto, described as a famous spot where nature meets history, that has been taken over by the Genma during the spread of Malice. Capcom revealed it in the release-date trailer during the early-June 2026 showcase, presenting it as a stage that takes Musashi Miyamoto beyond the corrupted streets of the capital and into the surrounding mountains.
Overview
Where most of the confirmed environments shown so far sit inside the city of Edo-era Kyoto, Mount Oe extends the journey outward into a natural, mountainous setting. Capcom describes it as a place where vast natural landscapes intertwine with history and legend, which sets it apart from the temple grounds, merchant districts, and underground interiors documented in the urban part of the game.
The mountain has fallen under Genma control. A Genma occupies the range and lies in wait there for Musashi, turning what would otherwise be a scenic landmark into hostile territory. This continues the game pattern of recognisable historical and legendary places being warped by the corruption.
Shuten Doji and the Genma Garrison
Mount Oe is the stronghold of Shuten Doji, a colossal Genma who claims to be the legendary oni traditionally tied to the mountain. In the trailer, Musashi carves his way through a Genma garrison stationed across the fortress, drawing on his Oni-granted speed and strength to move through the defenses before reaching the boss at the heart of the stronghold.
The pairing of a legendary mountain and a boss who claims a legendary name is deliberate: Mount Oe is historically associated in folklore with an oni king said to have dwelt there, and the game places its Shuten Doji encounter in exactly that setting. Whether the creature truly is that oni is left uncertain in the material shown.
Status
Mount Oe has been shown only in trailer footage as of the release-date reveal. Its internal layout, the full set of encounters it contains, and how it connects to the broader campaign structure have not yet been detailed. It is confirmed as a stage and as the site of the Shuten Doji fight; the finer points remain to be seen in the full game.
