Expanded Greater Nue with genma-experiments origin and combat tactics
The Greater Nue is one of the confirmed Genma types in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Capcom has described it as a ferocious, chimeric beast that harnesses the power of lightning, reimagined in the game's dark-fantasy take on Japanese folklore.
The Nue is a creature from classical Japanese folklore, typically portrayed as a composite being with a monkey's head, a tanuki's body, a tiger's limbs, and a snake's tail. The Greater Nue pushes that chimeric design further, adding lightning control on top of the traditional hybrid form.
The Greater Nue was introduced as part of the August 2025 Genma Experiments trailer, which positioned the antagonist Dokyo as the creator of new Genma. That places Greater Nue among the variants produced from his underground laboratory rather than one that simply walked out of the folklore.
The Greater Nue is the kind of encounter the game's reactive combat is tuned around. Lightning-charged attacks telegraph with specific timing cues, which gives disciplined players clean windows to use the combat system's timed parry or the signature Issen counter, while punishing anyone who tries to trade hits with it through posture damage.
