Beginner's Guide to LumenTale: Tips and Tricks
June 5, 2026 at 12:32 PM
Explains the core early-game systems for new players: main and hidden types, attribute traits, the importance of stat allocation, the two ways to catch Animon, the AniWiki, and how choices shape the story.
These tips and tricks help new players progress more smoothly through LumenTale: Memories of Trey, from catching Animon efficiently to understanding the systems that matter most early on.
Each Animon has one main type, which you can view on its menu. Most Animon also have a hidden type. Together these shape an Animon's overall type effectiveness, which is why two Animon of the same main type, such as two Virus Type Animon, can have different weakness charts. For the full matchup rules, see Type Effectiveness Explained.
Scanning reveals more information each time. Use it during encounters to learn what you are facing. See How to Increase Research Level.
Scans | What It Reveals |

Every Animon has one of five attributes, and each attribute grants a special trait. The traits are shown in the table below.
Attribute | Trait |
|---|---|
Enables an Animon to slightly heal its allies after attacking. | |
This Animon uses a percentage of its HP to deal additional damage. | |
Skill damage is directly increased. | |
Neutralizes an enemy's resistance and makes an Animon's next attack super effective if that attack would have defeated them. | |
Increased chance for critical hits. Each critical hit grants 1 extra TP. |
Although a trait is displayed on the Animon, you cannot use it until you unlock traits by beating a certain character as you progress through the story. If you go north, this happens on Route 16 on the way to Arsilia City.
Stat Points are earned each time an Animon levels up, and they can be assigned to any stats you choose, letting you build each Animon your own way. This is crucial: the game does not distribute Stat Points for you, so an Animon will feel weak even at a high level if its points are unspent. See How to Increase Stats.
There are two ways to catch Animon, and both run through the Holoken. See How to Catch Animon for the full breakdown.
Throw a Bilia in the field using the Holoken. You can freely aim before tossing to improve your chances of landing a hit. Animon behave differently by species: some stay calm and are easy to approach, while others aggressively chase you on sight.
Weaken the Animon first in battle. Against stronger or higher-level Animon, it is often better to swap from Bilias Mode to Animon Mode so you start the battle with an advantage.
After a Bilia connects, a quick-time event determines whether the catch succeeds. Its difficulty can rise with the Animon's level, and failing it enrages the Animon so it chases you. To recover, switch to Animon Mode and attack to stun it, since attempting a catch while it is stunned increases the catch rate.
The AniWiki unlocks once you leave Iris Hamlet. It records everything you have discovered, from the Animon you have captured and their stats and info to the collectibles and items you have found. When you scan an Animon's weaknesses in battle, its AniWiki entry updates as well. See the full AniWiki: List of All Animon.
Beyond choosing a starter, you will face important decisions throughout the story. Certain dialogue options and cutscene actions can change how events unfold, so pay attention before committing. See the List of Choices.
One of the first major decisions is whether to head north toward the Logos faction or south toward the Mythos faction. Each represents different environments and people, and each offers a different experience. See Should You Go North or South?.
