Mulan (花木兰) is a Resonance (共鸣) in Honor of Kings: World, confirmed in the S0 Season launch roster on April 10, 2026. She is a 对抗 (Confrontation) Resonance whose narrative identity is the leader of the Great Wall Guard Army (长城守卫军), and whose signature mechanical identity is a dual-form switch between the Light Sword (轻剑) stance and the Heavy Sword (重剑) stance. Her official tagline is "勇烈不足恃,坚韧护长城" ("Bravery alone is not enough; endurance guards the Great Wall").
Mulan's signature HoKW mechanic is a hard form switch between two distinct stances:
Light Sword (轻剑) - Fast, mobile, combo-heavy. Up to five-hit basic strings that generate 迅烈剑意 (Swift Fierce Blade Intent) marks. The charged basic launches enemies, and the perfect-dodge counter is a two-quick-slash sweep that can counter red-light boss attacks.
Heavy Sword (重剑) - Slower, heavier, high single-hit damage. Multi-hit basics with a forward-sweep charged basic. The perfect-dodge counter becomes a jumping slash.
The form-switch skill in both directions is named 绽放刀锋 ("Blooming Blade Edge"). When in Light Sword form, casting 绽放刀锋 switches Mulan to Heavy Sword with a heavy slash that can counter red-light attacks; when in Heavy Sword form, casting 绽放刀锋 switches her back to Light Sword.
Skill names are taken official HoKW hero compendium Light Sword and Heavy Sword pages.
Skill | Chinese | Form / Notes |
|---|---|---|
Sky Rend Slash | 空裂斩 | Light Sword: first-cast thrust; second cast is an aerial spin slash |
Whirling Dance | 旋舞之华 | Light Sword: throws the light sword to orbit a target; recast teleports Mulan to it |
Blooming Blade Edge | 绽放刀锋 | Both forms: the form-switch skill that toggles between Light Sword and Heavy Sword |
Azure-Breaking Slash | 苍破斩 | Heavy Sword: forward rush with damage reduction |
Azure-Breaking Assault | 苍破强袭 | Heavy Sword: pursuit attack that consumes Swift Fierce Blade Intent marks |
Blossom of Swiftness | 迅烈之华 | Heavy Sword: consumes marks for a multi-slash with damage reduction uptime |
Guardian's Blade | 巡守者之刃 | Ultimate (both forms): launches enemies and follows up with a multi-slash aerial combo |
As a Confrontation Resonance, Mulan draws enemy attention, absorbs damage, and deals respectable offensive output. The dual-form mechanic creates a two-phase combat loop: players build 迅烈剑意 marks in the Light Sword form through rapid combo strings, then switch to Heavy Sword to spend those marks on high-damage burst skills like 苍破强袭 and 迅烈之华. Both forms share the same ultimate (巡守者之刃), so the transition between forms is about combo tempo and damage profile rather than ultimate access.
The Great Wall Guard Army context places Mulan alongside Kai (also a Confrontation hero from the same unit), and the two are often shown together in HoKW marketing materials as the defenders of the northern frontier against the Northern Wilds.
Build 迅烈剑意 marks in Light Sword form with long basic attack strings, then switch to Heavy Sword with 绽放刀锋 to spend them
Against groups of weaker enemies, stay in Light Sword for faster clearing
Against bosses, save the Heavy Sword form for posture-break windows where 苍破强袭 can land multiple consumed-mark hits
Use Whirling Dance (旋舞之华) to reposition quickly between targets or close gaps during boss phase transitions
Both perfect-dodge counters can parry red-light attacks; learn which counter to use in each form
Launch-week PVP guidance from Chinese coverage frames Mulan's PVP play around quick weapon stance trades rather than long single-stance strings. The two patterns below are the most commonly cited starter routes and assume the player is already comfortable with the Light/Heavy form switch.
Open in Light Sword form with Q-Q to commit two skill casts and build the early 迅烈剑意 stack. Switch stance with 绽放刀锋, follow up with the heavy attack and an enhanced strike (often paraphrased as 'A then E' in PVP write-ups), then switch back to Light Sword for one more basic hit before re-entering the Light Sword neutral. The route trades reach for tempo and is best against opponents who try to commit to long combos.
Heavy Sword opens differently: the cited PVP starter is to lead with the Heavy Sword Q skill specifically to counter the opponent's opening commitment. After the Q, two responses are recommended depending on the read: switch to Light Sword and back to Heavy Sword to keep stance pressure, or switch to your second Resonance (Child of the Primal Flow is a common pairing) and continue normal-attack pressure on the staggered opponent.
Standard Mulan starts in PVP are basic-attack pokes or a Q-skill commit; pure stance camping is rarely correct.
Stance switches are the core damage lever; treat 绽放刀锋 as a route changer rather than a damage skill.
Out-of-combat growth talents do not carry into ranked PVP queues, so PVP Mulan plays from the same baseline as everyone else.
