Overview
Interstate 404, often shortened to I-404, is one of two named interstate highways in Grand Theft Auto VI. It runs through Vice City and out into the wider state of Leonida; road signs on it in the trailers point west from Vice City and east from the Port Gellhorn area, but Rockstar has not published its route.
Route
The highway's most prominent confirmed feature is its interchange with Interstate 97 at Crosstown, a stack of elevated ramps and overpasses that dominates that district and casts the shadowed underpasses it is known for. Beyond the city, a Trailer 2 sign in the Port Gellhorn area points east toward Vice-Dale and Mariana counties, and a Trailer 1 exit sign in Vice City appears to point west toward Kelly County. Rockstar has not published a map of the full route, so the sections between confirmed sightings are unestablished.
Confirmed Appearance | Detail |
|---|---|
Trailer 1 | A highway chase sequence along the interstate. A westbound exit sign in Vice City (around 0:51) appears to point toward Kelly County. |
Trailer 2 | A directional sign in the Port Gellhorn area naming Mariana County alongside Vice-Dale County, pointing eastward. |
Crosstown | The I-404 and I-97 interchange, the district's defining piece of infrastructure. |
Port Gellhorn | The Crossroad Park Minimall, including Uncle Jack's Liquor, sits along the highway. |
The County Sign
The Trailer 2 directional sign is the reason Mariana County is a confirmed county name at all. It lists Mariana alongside Vice-Dale County and points east, which is the only published indication of where Mariana sits relative to the Vice City metropolitan area.
Naming
The number is a fictional but real-looking route number. Rockstar has published no in-fiction history for the road, and no explanation of the numbering has been given.
What Is Not Known
No published map of the highway's full length or its junctions.
No confirmation of whether the highway reaches the Leonida Keys or the Grassrivers interior.
No toll, traffic or patrol system has been described for it beyond the presence of the state highway patrol.
