Gloriana is a fictional U.S. state located north of Leonida in the world of Grand Theft Auto VI. The state has been identified through license plate designs visible on vehicles in official Rockstar Games screenshots and trailer footage. While Leonida is the game's primary setting, Gloriana establishes geographic context by representing the neighboring state to the north, much as real-world Georgia borders Florida.

Real-World Inspiration

Gloriana is based on the U.S. state of Georgia. Georgia is named after a British king, and Gloriana likewise draws on British royalty: it was an epithet of Queen Elizabeth I. The license plates seen in Trailer 2 and official screenshots vary by year, with text such as Gloriana State, State of Gloriana and Discover Gloriana, and several designs follow historical Georgia plates.

Evidence and Identification

The primary evidence for Gloriana's existence comes from vehicle license plates. In several official Rockstar screenshots released alongside the game's marketing campaign, vehicles parked or driving through Vice City streets display plates from Gloriana rather than Leonida. This indicates that, like in real life, vehicles from neighboring states regularly appear in the game world. The plate designs are distinct from Leonida plates, featuring different color schemes and typography, and plate text such as Gloriana State or Discover Gloriana.

Geographic Relationship to Leonida

Gloriana borders Leonida to the north, mirroring the real-world border between Georgia and Florida. The Mount Kalaga National Park area in northern Leonida appears to be situated near this border, based on the mountainous terrain and rural landscape visible in official materials. The transition from Leonida's subtropical flatlands to the more temperate, hilly terrain of the park area suggests proximity to a state boundary.

Accessibility

It remains unconfirmed whether players will be able to cross the border into Gloriana during the main game.

The presence of a distinct Gloriana plate design does show that Rockstar built visual detail for territory outside Leonida. Rockstar has not said whether any of Gloriana is reachable in Grand Theft Auto VI.
