Answers below reflect what Genigods Lab has confirmed as of September 12, 2026. Where something is unannounced, this page says so rather than estimating.
Release and Platforms
Question | Answer |
|---|---|
When does it release? | No date has been announced. A 2028 window was given at the January 2026 reveal and has not been restated since, and the developer has twice declined on the record to name a date. |
Was it not announced for 2028? | It was, once, in the reveal materials in January 2026. The gamescom materials in August 2026 dropped the year and described only a future global launch, and Steam, the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store all show no date. The 2028 window is history rather than a current target. See Release and Platforms. |
What platforms? | PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. |
Is it on Switch or mobile? | Not announced. |
Will there be a Japanese version? | No Japanese localisation has been announced. Asked directly in September 2026, the CEO said nothing had been formally announced for the Japanese market while calling it an important one, and the Japanese Steam listing states that Japanese is not supported. Interface and audio are English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. |
Does it run on Steam Deck? | Not a current focus. The studio has said handhelds are not a priority for now, though it has not ruled them out. |
How much does it cost? | No price announced. The studio has confirmed it is premium and pay upfront, not free to play. The PlayStation listing also carries a notice reading "In-game purchases optional", which has not been explained and does not sit comfortably with a pure pay-upfront framing. |
Can I play a demo? | A hands-on demo ran at platform booths during gamescom from August 26 to 30, 2026. No public demo has been announced. |
Gameplay
Question | Answer |
|---|---|
Is it single-player? | Yes, it is billed as a single-player action RPG. |
Is there co-op or multiplayer? | No multiplayer has been announced. |
Why do the requirements list broadband then? | Both PC requirement tiers list a broadband connection, while the PlayStation listing states offline play only and one player. No explanation has been given for either, and no always-online requirement has been stated in either direction. |
Is it a Souls-like? | No. It carries that player tag on Steam, but the creative director has said on the record that it is not a soulslike, and the CEO has separately contrasted its pacing with slower action RPGs. The studio does call it hardcore, and says combat requires precise parrying and countering. |
What weapons are there? | The Fire-Tipped Spear and the Wind Fire Wheels are the only weapons named. See Weapons and Relics. |
Can I fly? | Aerial combat on the Wind Fire Wheels is one of two stances. See Dual Stances. |
What engine? | Unreal Engine 5. |
Story and Characters
Question | Answer |
|---|---|
Who do I play as? | The Spirit Pearl, the first life forged by Nüwa, reincarnated as Nezha. |
Why is the Chinese version called something else? | The Chinese editions are titled 《古神:风里希》 rather than after Nezha. 风里希 is given in the Chinese store text as Nüwa’s true name, so the Chinese editions are named for the creator goddess and the English one for the protagonist. See Genigods: Nezha. |
Do I need to know Chinese mythology? | No. The setting is self-contained, and the studio describes its approach as reinventing these legends rather than retelling them. |
Is this based on the Nezha films? | No. It is a separate game. The studio has confirmed a collaboration with the core production team behind the recent Nezha animated films, but that collaboration is a visual-effects one: bringing theatrical-grade real-time fluid simulation into Unreal Engine 5. It does not make the films’ story, characters or dialogue part of this game. |
How long is it? | Not announced. |
Is it open world? | Not announced. World structure has not been described. |
Still Unannounced
Price, exact release date, world structure, full cast, enemy count, difficulty options, accessibility features, and console performance targets have all not been announced. Detailed claims about any of those are not sourced from the studio.
