Dual Stances is one of the named combat systems in Genigods: Nezha. It lets the player switch seamlessly between ground and aerial combat, and it is what the studio means when it describes battle as flowing between heaven and earth.
The Chinese and Japanese builds name it as well: 地空双架势 in simplified Chinese, 地空雙架式 in traditional Chinese, and 二つの構え in Japanese. The simplified and traditional forms differ in the final character, 势 against 式, which is a first-party word choice rather than an error.
The Two Stances
Stance | Weapon | Confirmed role |
|---|---|---|
Ground | Fire-Tipped Spear | Close-quarters combos and parries on land. |
Aerial | Wind Fire Wheels | High-speed raids and aerial combos in the sky. |
Both weapons are drawn from Nezha's traditional iconography, and the studio describes the spear specifically as iconic. The pairing gives each stance a distinct identity: the ground stance is defensive and precise, built around parrying, while the aerial stance is mobile and built around speed.
Why the Split Matters
The split is not cosmetic. Parrying, which the studio has said the combat system requires precision in, is named specifically as a ground-stance capability. High-speed raids are named specifically as an aerial capability. That implies the two stances are not interchangeable and that encounters are expected to be read for which one applies.
Aerial combat also connects to the game's largest encounters, where players traverse the bodies of enormous gods. See Colossal Gods.
The Dragon Ball Reference
The CEO has named Dragon Ball as the reference for this system in particular. The point is not the property but the fighting: characters there fight on the ground and in the air without those being separate modes, and the stated goal here is to fuse ground and aerial combat into a single combat system rather than bolting flight on as a second mode. That is a statement of design intent. No Dragon Ball mechanic, character or content appears in this game. Combat System lists the other games the developers have named as reference points.
Inputs
Both stances are meant to be reachable without fighting-game execution. Combo strings can be configured in advance so that a newcomer can perform elaborate sequences, and the developers compare their simplified command scheme to the modern control option in Street Fighter 6. Neither statement is tied to one stance, so the input model appears to sit above the stance split rather than inside it.
Interaction With Other Systems
The Wind Fire Wheels have a named Fluid-mystic ability, described as a devastating mid-air strike awakened through the Heart of the Spirit Pearl. That is the only confirmed link between a specific stance and the Fluid-mystic system, and it suggests stance-specific mystic abilities rather than a shared pool.
Underneath both stances runs the 斗法 resource contest, the 器 and 神力 duel described on Combat System. Nothing published so far says whether the stance you are in changes how that contest behaves.
