Created page with the six launch Versus maps, their settings and layout features, plus the shared design intent
Gears of War: E-Day launches with six brand new Versus maps, all set in and around the war-torn city of Kalona. None is a remake. They keep the series' classic map principles, symmetrical structure with a focus on cover positions, fronts and lanes, while being built around the new movement sandbox so each layout carries its own risk and reward routes.
The stated design intent is consistent across all six: each map was designed with the 4v4 modes in mind, with power weapon and equipment placements, strategic areas and sightlines that reward tactical teamwork and precise execution.
Map | Setting | Layout notes |
|---|---|---|
Outpost | An abandoned military camp overlooking Downtown Kalona | Bunkers, rolling terrain and an elevated bridge connecting a well-trodden training facility. Multiple traversal routes, shifting elevation and long sightlines support both aggressive pushes and patient positioning. |
Battleship | A colossal wartime vessel part-way through post-war deconstruction | Exposed decks, contested bridge crossings and smouldering docks. Control of the key pathways sets the pace of the match. |
Park | A coastal park on the edge of Downtown Kalona, in the ruins of a zoo gone feral | Open sightlines converge on a central fountain, while winding pathways and the surrounding exhibits offer alternative routes across the map. |
Precinct | The Kalona Police Department, the day after it was decimated | Tight interiors, breached walls and improvised cover, which keeps flanks and close-quarters engagements constantly available. |
Market | A once-thriving seaside market shattered by the invasion | Long streets, elevated balconies and densely packed interiors create layered engagements in every corner. |
Skyward | Interconnected rooftops above the city | Perilous jumps and narrow pathways link the roofs. Verticality, exposed crossings and commanding overlooks reward players willing to take the high ground. |
Four of the six name a real location inside the city, which makes this list the most concrete picture of the city's geography currently available: a downtown core, a police department, a public market, a working waterfront and a coastal park built around a zoo. Those places are collected on the city page alongside the landmarks named elsewhere.
Skyward is the clearest example of the new traversal shaping map design. Rooftop-to-rooftop play only works because Gears can jump, climb and mantle without entering cover first, which is covered on Movement and Cover.
No callout names, power weapon spawn locations, spawn timers or map-specific mode rotations have been published. Individual map pages will be worth creating when that data exists. Horde Siege runs on its own separate set of three launch maps, listed on Horde Siege, and post-launch maps for both modes are confirmed but unnamed.
