Created page covering control schemes, aim and reload settings, sensitivity, mouse and keyboard options, audio presets and HUD options
Gears of War: E-Day ships with a deep settings menu split across accessibility, control, audio, interface and system tabs. This page covers the control, audio and interface options; the accessibility tab is on Accessibility Options, and PC rendering options on PC Features and Graphics Options.
Scheme | Description |
|---|---|
Default | The standard preset |
Modern | Closer to other modern shooters |
Modern Alt | Moves Slide to the B button |
Legacy | Closest to the series' classic control layout |
Legacy Alt | Moves some A button actions to other buttons |
Buttons can also be remapped individually by swapping functionality. Two onboarding modes exist specifically to help players settle on a scheme, and one of them supports four-player co-op so a squad can experiment together. Both are described on Versus.
Setting | Options |
|---|---|
Aim Assist | Off, Default per-weapon assistance, Snap Aim which briefly snaps the reticle to the nearest valid target, or Lock-on Aiming which holds the reticle on the nearest valid enemy and switches target on a flick. Affects the campaign and Horde Siege only. |
Toggle Aim | Aiming stays active until pressed again instead of requiring a held button |
Toggle Sprint | Sprint stays active until pressed again. Does not apply to the Legacy schemes. |
Auto Reload Mode | Automatic on empty, manual on the reload button, or manual on either the reload button or the trigger |
Remember Last Aim State | Restores whether you were aiming or zoomed the next time you aim, aimed mainly at scoped weapons |
Active Reload Position | Centered below the reticle, which is the default, or the classic Top Right position. See Combat and Gunplay |
Slide to Cover: automatically enters cover when sliding toward it. With it off, cover entry during a slide is manual.
Auto Look Horizon: transitions the camera tilt back to the horizon while walking.
Allow Automatic Lean Out Transition: approaches and transitions into lean-outs while in cover without extra input.
Keyboard Sprint Style: Modern, where you press forward and tap sprint, or Legacy, where sprint is held.
The mechanics these settings modify are described on Movement and Cover.
Beyond remapping, the controller submenu covers inverting the Y and X axes, swapping sticks, a toggle for using the same button to swap primary weapons and swap back, and inverting left or right and forward or backward movement. Feedback options cover controller vibration and adaptive triggers on supported controllers.
Sensitivity is split into six sliders covering horizontal and vertical look, target and scope sensitivity, alongside an aim acceleration slider. Dead zones are configurable per stick, with separate inner and outer values for the left and right sticks.
Setting | Detail |
|---|---|
Keyboard Bindings | Full remapping of keyboard and mouse controls for gameplay |
Sprint Style | Modern or Legacy, as above |
Scroll Wheel Weapon Cycle | Allows the mouse scroll wheel to cycle primary weapons |
Mouse inversion | Separate Y-axis and X-axis inversion |
Sensitivity | Independent horizontal and vertical look, target and scope sensitivity for mouse input |
Preset | Description |
|---|---|
Default | The original high-fidelity mix, recommended for most players |
Competitive | Highlights critical gameplay sounds such as footsteps and weapons |
Medium Dynamics | Boosts bass and treble to improve small speaker performance |
Midnight | Reduces dynamic range for consistent volume at low listening levels |
Alongside the presets there is a mono audio toggle, per-channel volume sliders, and a set of gameplay feedback volumes covering enemy, player and squad footsteps and hit markers. A three-band equaliser adjusts bass, mids and highs. Voice chat has its own controls, including proximity chat and its volume, which applies in Horde Siege only.
Setting | Detail |
|---|---|
Versus Overlay | Choose which overlay tab opens on a tap and on a hold, from Overhead Map, Scoreboard or Last Used, plus whether a hold-opened overlay stays open on release |
Enemy Health Bars | Set separately for the campaign and Horde Siege, with options for all enemies, large enemies meaning Boomers and larger, or bosses only |
Hit Markers | Separate toggles for standard hit markers, down or kill hit markers, and additional down or kill confirmation icons |
Teammate Display Names | Shows teammate names outside of Tac-Com |
Tutorial Hints | Toggles in-game tutorial hints |
Text Chat | Visibility toggle, channel selection and how long the chat window stays visible after a message |
The system tab holds the Language Select setting, documented as offering 22 options and requiring a restart to apply. Language support is on Release and Platforms. Every settings section can be reset individually, by section or entirely, and settings that differ from their default are marked with a hexagonal icon.
